I passed it off as an improvement. I think my dad figures I screwed something up, but if I'm not going to admit to it, he's not going to push.

An unspoken truce, if you will.

But I think I'll be replacing the mouse anyway, just to cover my ass. You never know when the shooting might start up again.

Prediction: Your life may really start sucking in the near future.

What, because of an apparent complete inability to act like an adult and take responsibility for his actions?

I swear that the subject of this thread almost sounds satirical.

What the fuck is wrong with telling the truth? My god, you tried to clean the mouse and accidently broke it, now you know better then to do something like that again.

Your father is might be even more disapointed that you didn't own up to your mistake then about the freaking mouse.(I know i would be, my heart breaks when my son lies to me about anything, I wonder "why is he lying to me about such a small matter, doesn't he trust me"). Are you so fearfull of the consiquences of your actions that you have to lie about it? I really hope you are not.

Maybe his father his an asshole who beats him to pulp over minor things like a broken mouse. Such people exist.

Get an optical mouse next time. No more cleaning mouse balls and rollers.

To me it sounded like he was doing something with regard to the mouse wheel (i.e. scroll wheel), not an actual ball.

You're good - his use of the coded phrase 'pop out the scroll wheel' must have clued you in. We can all learn from this! :)

When i was younger i could take apart an N64 controller (which exploded when the locks got undone) and then put it back together again perfectly, but i dont have a mouse like yours, sorry :P

And i can't see how upgrading from ME to Vista is anything but a good thing, wtf.
