Vehrec, have you watched GitS:2nd Gig? If so, you know that there was a war between the refugees and Japan, however brief. So obviously there'll be racial tension in there, mixed with racism that was present anyway.

I fucking dare you to watch Dallos and tell me its awesome. The skiing on the moon scene was utter shit. Gawd!
Then watch "Wallice & Gromit: A Grand Day Out " for some awesome Skiing on the moon, courtesy of a killer parking machine robot :P

I was only able to watch 36 minutes before I became too tired and had to go to sleep, but what I saw was AWESOME. I do NOT regret pre-ordering the DVD.

I also find Mamoru Oshii's films to be too much like dramas and not enough like action films. He needs to learn MTV-style tight editing.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.

They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

I think they installed the thermal-optical camouflage in the Major's artificial skin just for that reason, e.g., to show her in a "pure" state before she enters combat. (In 'Stand Alone Complex', the camouflage is also their suits, and can somehow work through clothing.)

Maybe it's because Oshii prefers to make films that are more like dramas. Honestly, if you want something to be X, don't watch Y and want it to be X instead.

If by drama you mean shitty pop philosophy cut with holyshitfuckcool Studio IG action sequences. Shinji Aramaki is a way better director for Masamune Shriro crap anyway.

Well whatever personal opinions you have concerning tastes for a filmmaker, Sidewinder's demand is still mental.

You don't watch Federico Fellini wanting it to be Sergio Leone...

No, but if you read the comic you'd be expecting little else from Ghost in the Shell, because even for Shirow it's epically word-heavy. (It's not quite Luther Arkwright in terms of dense text in a graphic novel, but it's getting there).

I'm not the biggest fan of Oshii, because most of his more recent stuff seems to spend way too long on pretty and atmospheric visuals, and not enough time on having Stuff Happen. (GITS:SAC blended the two very well).

Patlabor was great though.
