Sure, you go and play the pure shit that was MoH:PA. I'll go and play something that was actually fun and ran like something other than an arthritic two-legged dog.
What? I am talking about the fact that I've yet to see quality pacific theather ww2 games, and MOH:PA is NOT one of them. In fact, do any of those even exist?( good quality ones)

What we have in the military gaming genre is a pathological failure of imagination. If you're making a game set in the present or near future, you have virtually limitless possibilities for a WWII-style conflict with non-antiquated weapons and vehicles that are awesome instead of lame. But no, all we get is Normandy AGAIN and this WoT horseshit against Durkadurkastani terrorists who aren't even good at assymetrical war. Fucking wake me when it's over.

A huge conflict for the few remaining resources, beginning with a nuclear exchange and soldiering on in burnt-out ruins of cities and industrial zones...desperate struggle amongst radiation, hunger and world's most deadly conventional weapons...all of that simply for survival, since civilization has been destroyed in the first thirty minutes of the war - that is a war-FPS we need.

Well, Hidden and Dangerous 2 had a really good campaign set in Burma, several jungle levels and a hellish assault on a bunkered hill supported by a massed formation of Australian troops.

Take away the nuclear exchange and you pretty much just described Endwar. Which is full scale Nato vs Russia.

Of course, that's not an FPS, but given that it ties in to the rest of the Clancy games, I'd expect a Ghost Recon or something set alongside it.

Bah, Russians. Running around with their stupid AKs and stuff.

Why not become creative? Give us Germans! You fought them throughout the last three CoD games, now they can be the good guys, too!

Or Poles. Yeah, I'd like Poles ;)
Ah, but in CoD3 you do play as a Pole. :P

In fairness to Infinity Ward, they've said explicitly this game is not going to be some sort of Kraplakistani WoT shite. They've said that's not the game they're interested in making and want you to face a foe with equivalent weaponry and technologically advanced gear as you, not some guys setting off IEDs and running around in slippers with AKs. The trailer makes that clear when you see the infantry you're fighting in the miscellaneous Middle Eastern country you're fighting in.

They're also saying there's going to be way more weapons and tons of accessories in CoD 4. Hopefully that means not only the typical M4 SOPMOD etc, but also AK-74Ms with night scopes and GP-30s etc.

Do you mean configurable accessories? I wonder if they'll be the only game in eight thousand years to allow multiple accessories. :)

Cause the Germans haven't had a credible military in 60 years?

What's wrong, Vympel, not getting enough AN-94 action in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?

Oh god. How I long for a game where you can mod up your weapon with most anything you realistically could in real life. As opposed to the stupid genre standard of "oh, well, this M4A1 has a 4x ACOG on it. Thus making it Scoped M4A1. Unlike that M4A1, which is just M4A1 Carbine. Teehee, silly player, you're so stupid."

Sounds like you're referring to Armed Assault. Which sucks ass. It was briefly enjoyable when I happened upon a well put-together mission- until I found it had the same retarded bugs that OFP had, combined with a far higher difficulty level, and the same tediously shit command interface.

Any game that moves to an in-game cutscene where you're supposed to board some APCs - having the characters chatter while the camera just sits looking at the APCs - and then gunfire erupts while you can't see fucking shit, and then returns you to the game to show your character alread dead - and does it consistently - is not worth my time. Which is why I uninstalled it.

POS.

*snaps out of it*

I'm sorry, what happened?

Well, yeah. I was thinking more of modern Poles. Or the September Campaign, yeah.

It's too bad we won't be getting it, but I have no illusions. There's just not enough gamers in Poland to make a game catering especially for them profittable.

Germans would rock, though. Was there ever a game with Germans as the good guys?

Well, I know a lot of the Tom Clancy games had multinational team members available, many of whom were German. So in theory you could construct all-German task forces. Not sure if that counts...

Moving away from FPSs, either Allies or Axis could be considered the "good guys" in Silent Storm. And since it was pretty easy to simply do a pure German squad, an argument could be made there...

SWAT3 at least had many many pre-mix variants to choose from.

But I yearn for the promises made by SWAT:UJ to finally be made flesh.

Army of Two looks like it's got a fair raft of weapon configuration options.

In fact, it looks like it goes beyond mere accessories into Pimp My Gun territory.

I was spoilt by Infiltration. Hmm, open map, I'll slap on an ACOG and a 40mm. Close in map? SMG+flash, who needs to aim? Large-scale battle? G36, better optics, launcher and WP. Need to make a lot of noise? AKS, drum loaded and spare mags. 40mm + buckshot shells was always the best surprise ever. :)

What'd interest me personally would be if they were to spread the modularity across firearm roles as well.
