The Nameless One in Planescape: Torment. How often do games end with the main character finally deciding to stop trying to dodge his fate and embracing eternal damnation because the alternative can't be contemplated? Actually, it might not be eternal, but it's not like I'm up enough on D&D lore to know if the dead eventually get a pass out of the Blood War should they be a big enough bastard to get sent there. It seemed eternal but D&D is full of outs to let main characters escape things.
