You either just spent waaaaay too much money on the computer or you should buy a new monitor pronto. 1024x768 is served at max settings with a 8600, what you bought is absurd overkill for that resolution. And you really should buy a new monitor - a nice 20" or so LCD will do wonders for your appreciation of your new computer (which is plenty powerful to run a 20ish" LCD at whatever its native resolution is) plus your eyes will thank you. I haven't used a 15" CRT for close to a decade now, and I can't imagine going to squinting into some crap like that these days. Get a decent LCD now (it would have been much smarter to go with Arthur's suggestion for configuration and spend (part of) the difference on a monitor).PREDATOR490 wrote:Ok PC is ordered now and it will be 32-bit Vista. Same specs as posted above other than that. The monitor is just a 15' and I use 1024x768 resoultion but its been quite trusty so far. It's max reported resolution claims to be: 1920x1080.

My keyboard doesn't have your fancy symbols, so I had to improvise.Phantasee wrote:Arthur_Tuxedo
You do realize that the currency doesn't actually weigh a pound, right?
EDIT: It's definitely overkill for those games at any res, much less 1024 x 768, but the bright side is he'll be able to run new games at max settings for years to come with that res.

This was the objective.Arthur_Tuxedo wrote: EDIT: It's definitely overkill for those games at any res, much less 1024 x 768, but the bright side is he'll be able to run new games at max settings for years to come with that res.
My current computer cant even run Empire at War in that resolution even with the lowest settings. My budget for the base unit left enough to spend on a monitor should I decide I want / need one. Getting a new monitor is vastly easier for me than this computer and is helped by having the particulars of the system I need the monitor for.
What kind of resolution monitor should I be looking to get with a budget of £500 ?

Pfft. Here in the US, it only cost 300 bucks to get a decent widescreen 20.6". 500 pounds is as good as "Money is no question".PREDATOR490 wrote:This was the objective.Arthur_Tuxedo wrote: EDIT: It's definitely overkill for those games at any res, much less 1024 x 768, but the bright side is he'll be able to run new games at max settings for years to come with that res.

I've heard a lot of good things about the 27" Syncmaster 275T. The HP 24" are also supposed to be quite good. My friend has an older HP 24" and it's amazing.

That's getting a little carried away. With an SLI setup, he should be good for at least 18 months before he has to start turning things down, and you can usually just replace the GPU and leave all the other components until about the 3 year mark. Besides, monitors these days are very good at interpolation, so it's not like it's going to be an eyesore to run something at 1440 x 900 on a 1920 x 1200 monitor.
