NFL football. I usually end up watching a couple games a year out of sheer boredom, and I still don't understand its appeal.
Seinfeld. Yeah there's a few classic episodes like the Soup Nazi and the one where Kramer puts his shirts through a pizza oven, but the rest of them are so fake and/or contrived that it's not funny at all.
CSI. I don't know. I just don't get this one.

Sopranos. Never understood the appeal, never will. The same goes for 24.
Lost lost me from the get go. Any and all reality TV shows, worst mind numbing shit ever to pollute the airwaves.
D20 rpg. Just why?

Reality television. Doesn't do anything for me.
Also, RPG video games from Japan, like
Final Fantasy. Zero appeal to me.
Stravo wrote:For example, Transformers the movie. There are many people here who obviously really liked the movie. Many found it plain awesome, some putting it in their sigs or quote from it in other great movie threads, etc.
In my instance I found the movie awful and dull. The characters and the way the transformers were portrayed were so Bayish that to me it was like Pearl Harbor with transforming robots. Plot points telegraphed themselves from miles away and cheap tricks and hack writing only made it worse. The main villain was an absolute waste of build up and a let down.
But people here really seemed to have liked it. What am I missing here?
I couldn't get into the Transformers movie either... although I never really watched the cartoon when I was a kid.

Ah, Halo's a good one. It's like the console gamer crowd had never heard of an FPS before, so suddenly Halo is hot shit when it came out. I'd rather play Perfect Dark.
Starcraft. Don't get me wrong; I played the shit out of it back in the day. But Jesus H Christ, it's
not the be-all end-all of RTS. I never really played many traditional games on BG Hunter or what have you, instead I stuck to the various genius designs of UMS, playing bizarre quasi-RPGs and hybrid mini- and meta-games.
On a similar note, Warcraft 3. I seriously don't get it. It's a godawful game, and a shitty excuse for real-time "strategy" (try "real-time micro a hero character around; whoever is best/luckiest after ten minutes of that wins"). The DotA craze is even further beyond me.

That's a big reason why Starcraft was so popular. The map editor.
(Ever played any good user-created single-player campaigns?)

My mother and father like drinks that make beer seem like a sugary slushie you'd give to your kids. Some people just like bitter. Other people just like a cheap way to get drunk, they don't actually like beer itself.
Stravo wrote:Not only that but I think part of it has to do with the fan base, some of them are so fucking over the top fanwhores that you can't not help but ridicule them out of sheer annoyance.
Most sane people who like anime actively hate the fanwhores. Usually the people who like the same shows as the fanwhores hate them even more. Hell, sometimes even the
makers of the show hate the fanwhores with a burning passion. Seriously, the only people who like those annoying pieces of shit are other fanwhores, and given the high incidence of flame-wars in between fanwhores, even they don't like each other that much.
Plus there's this creepy pedophile vibe in alot of anime that I can't get over.
The age of consent in Japan is 13, and it has been 13 since forever. You don't need to be an anthropologist to see the cultural ramifications.
You need to remember that Anime is primarily made by the Japanese for the Japanese. In fact, I think culture shock is one of the reasons why it doesn't appeal to a lot of people.

Holy shit! I thought I was the only one! PD is one of those games that are so good they age very gracefully.

They raised it to 16 awhile back, afaik. Not much better, but it's an improvement.

The X-Men comics.
The Heroes TV show.
Come to think of it, both have completely illogical regeneration abilities played off as a result of natural evolution.
The Wheel of Time is another. I tried reading the first book, didn't really get into it. Wheh I heard about how filler packed the others were, I never bothered.

AA, I get that your trying to stop drinking but all AA does is replace one crutch with another (that being god). Add to that I've heard stats that it's effectiveness is as low as only 5% of people that attend actually get any results from it. Yet everyone I saw in the mental health and medical professions when I was an alcoholic recommended AA. Except for my pyscho who flat out said "you won't get anything out of it".
Seriously I had to quit on my own.

I don't get why there's a massive 'anime' following around Final Fantasy 7 or Evangelion. They were mediocre at best, yet are hideously popular. It's in many ways like people who enjoy Voyager in my mind.
I don't get anything alcoholic. It tastes like crap. I'll prefer a Snapple, thankyou.
I don't get why people still play Starcraft/WC3/CS so much. Monotony games from years ago, hooray?
I don't get why people in my state refuse to use the turn signals on the freeway.
I don't get Emo people. Enjoy being miserable?
I don't get the appeal of virtually all musical groups these days.

I prefer apple juice or chocolate milk, myself. Ooh, or Ginger Ale! Canada Dry, it's the champagne of Ginger Ales!
Nephtys wrote:I don't get Emo people. Enjoy being miserable?
Ditto.
Also, anime. I know it's been mentioned, but I need to say it myself. Subtitles are bad enough on real movies, I don't want to put myself through that for an entire season of TV.

I get anime. It's a style for telling stories, and the stories in some genres happen to be the type we like. That's all it is.
I just don't get why clearly bad ones are so popular

No no, you're real people. I mean people who obsess over them so much. If you like the story, it's cool. But it's people who think discussing foreign animated works qualifies as everyday conversation. Seriously, it's not like NHL hockey in Canada, or Hollywood films in North America, or good books among Arts students. I understand you want to discuss anime with other like-minded people, but unless you're in Japan, you aren't going to find loads of people like that.

I will never understand the point of drinking alcohol exclusively to get intoxicated. My freshman roommate seemed to live specifically for that purpose...

If you slept with someone you'd rather not remember, a sufficiently large amount of alcohol which is administered promptly may enable you to forget that particular experience. Of course, alcohol increases your chances of sleeping with such a person...

This one I agree with wholeheartedly, being a gamer. :S
Another one is chocolate. I know it tastes nice, but I would be totally unable to eat large amounts of it in one sitting, because my throat becomes dry, and the chocolate tastes bitter. I don't know how some people can do it/claim they'd like to.

I don't get why somebody sane would pay 40 bucks for a third of a plate of food. Hell, I don't get those "pay $300 for a plate" parties politicains have. It's stupid.
Throwing out untouched food after social gatherings, such as weddings. Now sometimes this is unavoidable, but when the dining part of the reception only lasts like an hour that is not a good reason to throw away all of the leftovers. At the very least have the remaining food shipped off to your house or something when that part of the party's over!
Leaving the key in your ignition when you leave your vehicle unattended. That's like going to a swinger's bar and mooning everybody.

Don't the profits from those dinners go to charity? People are willing to pay a lot more when it isn't just padding the seller.

Nicotine Junkies that need an hourly hit. That simple.
coffee - the bitterness is too much
I am going to second this, i like the smell of it and it does make a decent flavouring in small amounts, but the drink itself is just disgustingly bitter.

I don't get mangoes. I spent years with people just assuming that everyone liked mangoes, and I thought that maybe I'd just been getting crap mangoes, because I didn't like the taste. Then one day it hit me: I just don't like mangoes. And now every time I'm offered a mango, I have to spend five minutes explaining that no, I don't like mangoes, and I doubt that I'll particularly like their mango either, unless it's actually a banana.
I don't understand how anyone can even exist in the same room as licorice. Seriously, I hate it so much that I find it hard to breathe when there's a strong licorice smell about. I even used to walk past the King of Knives when I went to the Coles at Chaddy, because the alternative was walking past Darrell Lea, which absolutely reeks of licorice. And then sometimes my mum EATS THE STUFF WHILE IN THE CAR WITH ME, and I have to beg her to put it away while choking on my own bile. I don't think I'm allergic to it or anything. I just hate it that much.
I also don't understand how those comedies about people being horrible to members of their family (King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, etc.) ever became popular. I have enough dysfunctional family life at home without watching it on the telly, thank you very much. And I don't find the dysfunctional family life that I have to deal with particularly funny, either.

I don't want to drag this too off-topic, but like Soontir said, you're talking about "extreme" metal.
"Normal" metal tends to be melodic and intelligible.
