And a bit of background.
Umbar is a Warforged Fighter unearthed by Kelloby and Kalnölendil on a recent dig.
He had spent five years buried following a blast which left him smothered him beneath dirt and rubble. Being aware this whole time has left him feeling somewhat liberated. Seeing that the House Cannith which created him made no attempts to recover him, he feels that he has no legitimate bondage to this House and is now free. He does however feel indebted to Kelloby and Kalnölendil for rescuing him from his earthen imprisonment and to this point has been assisting them with their ongoing research and occasionally interceding on their behalf when situations move beyond the academic.
His disagreements with House Cannith have thus far never risen to much beyond the occasional rebuff of an order, but by the same measure he does not affiliate himself with the various Warforged liberation groups, feeling that their plight is not truly aligned with his own situation. He also feels that some Warforged are a little "preachy" on the matter.
Of course, Umbar couldn't get preachy if he tried, five years of solitude hasn't exactly done wonders for his social skills. He is trying though. The perpetual wakeful state is something which he is now putting to good use, wandering the streets all day and all night. His continuing fear of enclosed spaces keeps him outdoors more often than not. In the many parks and along the airborne bridges and boulevards he can often be found staring upwards towards the clouds and stars as well as intently observing the streets, buildings and people around him. As such, Milo has found him to be an invaluable source of information at times.
His disconcerting visage is always something that has worked against him. Companions have never been easy to come by, and some Warforged shun him for the animalistic design of his form. He is always careful though, his massive form and overwhelming strength led to many incidents early in his new life within the city. It has taken a lot of time to retrain his body following immobility, but he is now even able to handle small and fragile objects with great dexterity and gentleness despite his clawed hands. Umbar's loyalties lie firmly with those who have demonstrated friendship and compassion to him. Aside from Kelloby, Kalnölendil and Milo, he has few who he could count as friends. Some are the itinerants who can be found throughout Sharn, the homeless and drifters. A few of the city's Watch rely on him for information as Milo sometimes does, they have also been known to ask him to "just stand about" at times, as the presence of a large, ursine Warforged tends to be a strong disincentive towards many petty street crimes. But one of his most treasured acquaintances is one of the researchers at the university whomhe met through Kelloby. This researcher, Orton is an astronomer, and a tireless companion who loves to stare skywards with him has been a great use for several of his studies. Umbar loves to hear from Orton as it means a night of learning, conversation and discussion of their shared passion is upcoming. Umbar maintains a small "lock up" in Tavick's Landing which stores several of his larger possessions and in which he will sometimes test his claustrophobia.
And a very poor picture of Umbar, stolen and horribly edited from Age of Legends concept art.
