Most patches which are flown on a mission end up being attached to commemorative plaques. Most of these plaques are handed out to VIPs and other personnel who worked on the mission, as a small "atta-boy". I've got several of these plaques for supporting shuttle missions. And there are usually *hundreds* of these patches flown on each flight.

In addition, each astronaut is allocated a certain amount of space/mass for personal articles, which they, in turn, usually give out to family/friends as gifts.

This is all well and good , however in a stunningly poor taste decision he has a still photo of one of the crew patches that floated down into someones yard......is it just me being overly sensetive or does anyone else find this tacky and a shade repugnant?

Actually, that part of his site doesn't particularly bother me. He is honoring the dead by preserving their memories.

It's very humble, actually.

At at least we know that DarkStar actually has a heart. :P

Just someone tearing off Darkstar's throat on a subject that I think he didn't do anything wrong because of another subject that he did do wrong.

Maybe just morid curiousity?

Ahem,

*poke*

Personally the pic of the charred patch is kind of symbolic.
It touched the heavens, fell back to earth (which is sort of like Icarus flying to close to the sun) and it has all 7 names.

The only reason it's not my avatar is shep didn't have it posted the other day. At least he had this pic though. Thanks Shep!

I believe it was a tasteful memorial to the shuttle, and I applaud DarkStar for not saying it was part of a Warsie Conspiracy. He's done at least one thing correctly.

Either that, or he figures it will make him look good.

Jesus, give the man some credit for doing something good..No matter what you think of him when it comes to versus debating, that doesn't mean you have to carry it over into real life..

What "real life?" I'm strictly talking about his SWvST website, not trying to accuse him of doing anything in real life (unlike some of his public attacks on me).

Ah, I'd love to read Lil' Bitch's comment page when he accuses us of not liking his scorched patch.

Of course he is. Last time it was posted that it was wrong to send death threats to Dipshit, he put it in his comment page saying "They fear me! And Wong didn't post anything in that thread, it must be a conspiracy!"

He wouldn't do that: in his mind, he doesn't look need do things to look good because he doesn't consider himself bad (or nuts) in the first place...

No, but the fact that I don't do the same will probably go into his mental file as more proof that I'm a horrible, horrible monster from whom he must bravely stand firm and protect the world.

Me too...maybe he should leave that and remove all the other gibberish in his site..

I think a picture of the crew would be a better tribute. Why focus on their death when you can look at their lives and see what they all achieved?

IMHO, that gives a very good memorial to the astronauts, as it gives a very personal touch to it. Darkstar did a good job on that one.
