Brother-Captain Gaius wrote:If I do end up GMing this, I am not averse to teaching for those who don't have the full rules in front of them.

Since the primary mode of communication would likely be AIM and PMs, and the player's end of the rules are fairly simple, I don't anticipate much difficulty.
If I don't find a book in any decent amount of time I would like to go with this.

Huh. The Borders and Barnes and Nobles in my area all have Dark Heresy, even multiple copies. Especially after I told the Sci Fi guy working at the local Borders that he might want to order some more. Have you guys tried special ordering the book from a major retailer?

Man, I wish I could play, but I just don't have the time. Plus, I would have to get my wife involved or she would feel left out, and we only have the one computer... But I would love to read some session or mission reviews, like in the Dark Heresy Review Thread, so please post them here, too.

If you guys are still after a GM, I volunteer my questionable and sadistic services...

As for all-psyker parties... Having seen what happens when one low level psyker gets a string of bad rolls... You may wish to not maximise your chances as a party of rolling 9s.

That would be awesome, considering Gaius is busy playing in the other group.

I do have an idea for a... somewhat Xenos themed pysker campaign/adventure (how long it lasts depends on what the players do...) actually...

Cool, because I want to be a psyker. It'll make for an interesting story, going against my bretheren...

Our group doesn't much fear psychic phenomena, probably due to the fact that overall it helped us more than hurt us.

We've had:

1) Creepy winds and noises

2) Gusts that have knocked down more enemies than us, especially useful when the enemies were knocked off stairs.

3) Big bad Peril of the Warp roll which resulted in my character being displaced in time . . . . and not getting pasted by a power armoured xeno.

So we've been lucky so far. We're going to get really fucked sooner or later, but so far the activity that has generated the least amount of psychic activity has been . . . . throwing three dice for firestorm.

I don't really want to play as a psyker, but if that is where the game is heading, I don't have a problem with it.

Not really required; for a start, the social aspects of things are likely to be rather hard for a group of unattended psykers.

You've been lucky. Just last week, my (low level; fear what the high level game I've been GMing has had) game had... Rivers of blood. More rivers of blood. Blood coming out of the walls. Horrible glimpses of the heart of the warp.

Oh, and horrible maiming due to intended healing.

We're collecting insanity points like nobody's business.

I think someone's given the psyker loaded dice.

Or you might want to do exactly that. Penny-Arcade is running a superb game right now where a heretic cult leader and his retinue were entirely wiped out because a psychic phenomenon threw everyone twenty feet in the air and dropped them back down, the Inquisitorial agents only just surviving with no hit points. This was caused by a successful use of healing.

I want to run a five-psyker team where it's only expected one or two of them are to survive, the rest dying to enemy fire, psychic mishaps, execution by their peers, or becoming too insane/corrupt from referencing too much forbidden 40k knowledge they don't possess.

And no genestealers.

The most insanity points have been inflicted by the party's other psyker successfully using the fear power and having it fuck over two other party members. No Psychic Phenomena rolls required for that bit of nastiness.

Hrm. Time to start scouring the city for a copy of Dark Heresy, I've been on a serious 40k binge lately and this sounds like just the thing. Amazon, sadly, has failed me.

This is part of the reason why I want to roll Techpriest. Aside from being kickass party-support characters, of course.

Is it wrong of me to think that a party consisting of a scum, a guardsman, a techpriest, and an adept running missions for an Inquisitor that used to be a commissar and suffered extensive burns to one side of her body on a mission would be an awesome game?

No, you are not. I'll be happy to play a Malcolm Reynoldsesque scum character. :P

Success! I am now a properly-equipped heretic.

hmm, actually I was thinking of playing a spacer scumbag. You know, nice dresser, sword and long barreled pistol at side, I'm here to be your drafted ex-pirate. Obviously looking forward to getting ahold of a proper pirate scum type weapons, you know the monoedge chainsword, and the inferno pistol, after all one has to have hopes.

obviously the captain of the ship and most of the ship was purged, I just lucked out and was one of the spacers that happened to not be bad enough to be executed immediatly....

If only there was some kind of internet to maybe order things on!

It'd be under AU$40 shipped.

Well, you could always try bringing a huge pile of components, an equally huge pile of Thrones, and a live power source (Electrical Succor FTW) to a Techpriest, and hope that they cobble together something useful for you.

yes, yes, that would be the "practical" method...

of course in the short term I definatly have to collect so many little pistols so I can act like chow yun fat or black beard and just pull out a fresh pistol every time I empty one instead of looking for more clips.

mind you that shotgun in the scum profile does sound like a perfectly good pirate type weapon, however the scum class only starts with basically rags, a good low grade former space pirate would of course be going for something more showy.

yeah, I know a little too much about highwaymen and pirates in my nerdy head not to know how to play a superstitous stick-up thug with a flair for style over substance.

come on, once operation rob from the unritious give to the alcolytes of the inquisition is started, toys should eventually become available.

Depending on timing and whether I can find a copy of the book, I'd love to get in on this myself. Unless there's a post count requirement, in which case I'm out of luck.

Pfft... post count requirements? Bah. While being well known does help in getting in, board RPs are a great way to boost your post count. I think mine has gone up by over a thousand in the past year due to just such things. So don't sweat it, just make yourself look like the kind of person people would want to play with.

ok, background short and sweet version:

serving on the crew of a bunch of normal pirates, their ship was siezed when they entered a normally currupt station for leave and resupply, the Inquistioner showed the captain the "lock" to establish absolute authority, and set the crew to chase after a particularly nasty Eldar pirate. barely surviving the conflict, I was to find out that the "Letter of Marquis" promised for taking down said Eldar, was infact a life sentace in the service of the Inquisition.

Goals: better weapons, flashier clothes, gotta get more pistols, more ammo for my shotgun, one of those armoured duster jackets would be a good bit to spend some loot on, keep you alive and look good at the same time. get some earrings, some hand rings, and try and become a good privateer.

Current Gear: shotgun, 12 shells, 1/2 meter long "knife" (I believe that's a kukri blade, bowie knife, gladius, etc. might as well be a short sword), spacer's coveralls and body glove (undies), hold out auto-pistol, 1 clip, head scarf/bandana.

starting Skills:
basic weapon (sp)
ambidexterous
basic pistol (sp)
primative weapon
Speak low gothic (yarrr!)
Dodge (avoid that splinter pistol fire)
awareness
common lore (imperium)
Advances:
charm +100 (I'm a sauve mother when I'm trying to
Ballistic Skill +100
space craft: +100 (look ma I can fly shuttles)
Sound Constitution +100 (where has all the Rum gone!)

traits:
charmed
ill omened (somehow people don't like rogue traders/privateers)
shipwise: pilot spaceship and stellar navigation are basic skills
void accustomed: I'm used to zero G

quirks: walks like he's used to wearing magnetic soled boots all the time. (ok, who stole my Magnetic soled boots while I was in the brig) to others it looks like a bit of a limp, to a spacer it's obvious zero g training from a ship prone to power failures.

origin: pirate, (so either warship or rogue trader count)
apperance: pale skinned, with ginger (red hair and freckles) complexion, has violet eyes.
