Obama: GOP Will attack my patriotism

The GOP can't come out and say "don't vote for the black guy." They'll have to do what Hillary did and use code, such as "working-class voters" which really means "racist white trash."

A huge problem is the Latino community. They hate hate HATE blacks and Obama. Unless the Democrats do a good job pandering to them, there is a good chance they will vote McCain over Obama (as some polls have indicated). I don't know why they hate blacks so much that they would rather vote for a party which is pretty blatantly set on blaming Latinos for all of this countries economic problems, but hey ...

Like IP said, the Hispanics that "hate hate HATE" black people tend to be recent immigrants and less well educated. I also don't know how many poor Hispanics will vote Republican, especially given their stand on immigration. They may not like black people, but they don't like Republicans either.

Frankly, "the Latino community" is a huge problem for your society in general, because they're overwhelmingly social conservatives. It's always frightening when they poll the "Latino community" about things like homosexual rights.

They all also come from societies with uniform grants of special privilege for religion in the state for the Roman Catholic Church. Hispanics are probably a huge part of the strategy on the part of both sides, because it could go either way. Face value, McCain, though he may be a white privileged guy (sigh), as a veteran and not black and as a Republican (automatically free pass on religious 'values' and social conservativeness) and as a border state senator with a moderate and accommodationist record on immigration, actually has the edge with Hispanics. Obama, as a brainy successful black man who is eager for reform, is behind. However, a strong immigration reform policy backed with the credibility of a Vice President like Bill Richardson would probably even the odds, and tip them completely is McCain sells out on immigration in an effort to appease the far right base (which given his so-far election strategy, seems likely).

Hispanics, however, while once a strong Democratic constituency, over the past eight to ten years have been shifting dramatically in the other direction. In 2004, 44% of Hispanics voted Republican. And McCain is far more popular than Bush, as he is actually somewhat committed to immigration law reform. In the primaries, Clinton was able to mobilize widespread Hispanic support. However, it is still up in the air whether or not the Obama campaign can transfer this support to the Democrats.

It is going to be close either way, but just saying that the Republicans are racist isn't enough. Many Hispanics are simply too socially conservative.

And, let's be blunt, ignorant. Voting for someone because they want to legalize all illegal aliens is really, really stupid, and yet it works among many first generation legal immigrants.
