I'm waiting for this to turn out to be Blizzard playing with people's minds.

Actually, the Necromancer was pretty good in that way as well, if you really made an effort to use tactics with him. I never got into the "zookeeper" build.
It's not about the tactics, it's about the physical act of repeatedly clicking on the mouse button. Doesn't matter what class you play as, Diablo is fucking hideous to actually physically interact with. If it didn't have that, I would still be playing it today.

Couldn't you just hold the mouse button down? Maybe I'm getting confused with 'not balanced at all' Sacred. It's sad, but Titan Quest was WAY more boring than the Diablo games; it was transparently 'now we switched the enemies to SCORPIONS'. At least TQ had a decent skilltree, though, but frankly that's just the post-MMO standard.

I couldn't have parodied the Diablo market any more than 'zomg make it sprite based' and 'make it exactly like Diablo 2' though. I thought I was being a bit harsh (after all, not being Diablo doesn't mean your game is bad) but making an ugly clone of a meh game? Go Blizzard!

Heaven forbid people expect a higher level of interaction or more sophisticated character development. ;)

As long as the game remains themathically correct... I'd loathe to see it become a PG version of the original concept.

I wouldn't even mind a gameplay similar to WoW if they bother to make the graphics/atmosphere similar to DooM3 (but medieval)... And a decent storyline.

I have heard from my contacts in the industry that Diablo 3 will be a huge departure from the original series. Going off of the successes of games like Oblivion and Mass Effect, the new Diablo will still be third person, but have an over the shoulder camera. The world will be much more wide open, and randomly generated each time you play. In this way, you can theoretically explore the massive terrain forever, never running out of things to do.

I don't know about you, but I'm kind of looking forward to it. Thoughts?

Let's see just how many knee-jerks THAT gets.

Sounds like World of Diablocraft.

To run yes. To attack you had to click per swing/shot. Mice were not ergonomically designed for doing that with.

That's why you take the barbarian class, skill up to whirlwind, and then use that all the time.

Every RPG has promised this, it has always been dropped during development. I'll believe it when I see it. And it does sound like world of diablocraft.

Bullshit with some cherry on top. Those are my thoughts.

The only way I will be interested in Diablo 2, if I will get a more interesting combat system and you know, actual gameplay and maybe some story or meaning. Like I said, Diablo 2 was a glorified grindfest, going trough dungeon A killing swarms of Minion X with a Monster Y occasionally dropped in. It gets repetitive quick. This was Oblivion's fault as well: the whole game could happen in the same field and same enemies (thanks to the in-built balance system).

No you didn't. At least not after one of the early patches anyway.

Although it'd be cool if it were true! And the over the shoulder camera wouldn't surprise me.

I'm not sure how you really could add too much more 'gameplay' into a Roguelike/Diablo clone without massively changing the format and basically making it into an actual RPG. And while some people might find that preferable, I feel it's like saying that a shooter would have been better if the combat was based on to-hit rolls, stats, and turn-based. Pushing the boundaries of what the cliched Diablo clone can do is a good idea, but it's really a very simple format, like a puzzle game, and it seems a bit bizzare to criticize games of that format for being of that format. They may not be fun for everyone, but it's not like they've failed to deliver what they promised.

To improve them you need some way to do the same relative thing over and over but in ways that don't become too boring, I suppose. Possibly slow down the combat, de-emphasize actually killing everyone you see (more based in getting THROUGH the crowds and to an objective perhaps?), thus allowing people to have the time required to use all those special powers? I'm not sure. I don't think there's much room for huge gameplay changes though. It's like dynasty warriors--if you alter the format to the point where you're not cleaving through hordes of enemies, you'd have been better off just making a totally different game without bothering to call it Diablo 3.

Isn't this what Guild Wars did? Melee combat is about the same speed, but spells and skills generally take a whole lot longer to cast/use, and the recharge times are similarly longer. Also, not aggroing enemies is a common tactic when simply trying to reach a point in the world, as it usually takes a while to reach that point, and taking on every enemy in an area at once is a sure recipe for death.

I say that it's a new Lost Vikings game.

Because that would kick arse.

Who says your getting anything big?

All Blizzard have publically done is add a splash screen to their site that their adding a tiny bit to every day. The internet has done the rest.

If you assemble and look at the chunks of the image released so far, it is a purple Tuskarr from behind - you can pick out the shoulder hump, tail, and fur collar quite easily. This is a countdown to the WotLK beta, and all those runes are just an allusion to the new Inscription profession in WoW.

The art does look more WOWish more then anything. World of Starcraft perhaps?

...I could see myself playing something like that for a month or two.

Yes, but Guild Wars sticks to the MMO format, not the "engine of destruction" sort of rampaging murderous killer format. I suppose what people would REALLY prefer is something similar to God of War that you play in a Diablo style, with your own dude instead of Kratos, and your combos and special powers as decided by your classes and skillchoices and equipment. Though I'm not sure if that's what people would like, it does add more 'stuff to do' to combat while also allowing you to keep it more akin to Diablo than Guild Wars (which I would still consider just MMO standards with more streamlining).
