He forced it, it wasn't needed or wanted on the part of the Marines so there was a great deal of resistance. Sure, the leaders said all the right things, but they had no real interest in it. You're assuming that the difficulty in integration has anything to do with ability. You're equating publicity with ability as well, a very bad assumption.
No I'm not saying difficulty with marine integration came from ability. It came from what you said. The corps mentality and the forcing of the corps to do something doesn't want to do.
And I'm not equating publicity with ability. I'm saying if there are more documented missions than one branch has more experience. If the branch is larger, then they have more experience. There are many publicly available missions for SF and many more classified ones. But the fact is that they are bigger and better at U/W (DA I would probably give to marines). However that says nothing about the army as a whole because CAG and ISA aren't even recognized by the DoD and SOAR is rarely if ever spoken about and they both are still components of the army.

"Fear and ignorance claim the unwary and the incomplete. The wise man may flinch away from their embrace if he girds his soul with the armour of contempt."
Here's the flaw in your thinking. Larger may mean more missions, although not always, it can also mean that there's simply a less efficient command structure and needs more support personnel, something the Army is notorious for btw. However it doesn't really mean more experience as far as the individual operators are concerned, because if it's a larger command it usually means the jobs are spread across a larger number of teams. Now there are specialized missions that each individual command is better at but the truth is there's really a very minimal difference between each branch's SF, mainly because they all train together, learn from eachother and are often actually integrated. A number of SEALs are actually Marines, a number of Recon were Army at one point.
Now moving away from SF, which is really not an indicator of how well the entire force is prepared for unconventional warfare, the Marines are smaller, more flexible and the average Marine infantryman is better trained than your average Army infantryman. I'd say that makes the Marines as a whole better prepared.

Nah we we're Borgish, Block, remember?
Anyway, his misconceptions aside, if he wants to join the army, let him join the army. From what he's written here I think he'll have a hard time of it but it's his four years.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Assuming he's going to last that long. If he keeps up the same attitude of a fucking moron he has displayed here, I wouldn't count on it. He just might be stupid enough that they won't manage to beat any semblance of sense into him...

Thank you. I am considering going into law and politics after being in the military. If I am to be a tool then so be it. I couldn't conscionably take up politics without having actually been at the literal forefront of change, being in the trenches. I wouldn't be able to feel like I had any real understanding of it.
99% of all change in society does not happen in the trenches. In fact, the kind of "change" which happens with the participation of trenches and warfare isn't usually the most desired one. If you are serious about actually wanting to help people, becoming a soldier will not realize that: unless you see it as a tool to better your chances of being elected by a military-worshipping American public, of course.
Then again, a former cop (or fireman) will likely score the same kind of political points, and you will actually be spending that time directly helping people (it seems that's what you want to do, unless I am mistaken). Excepting an irrational "hatred" of the police, which you didn't give a good reason for yet, this does seem like the best option for an idealist who wants to "fight evil", as it were.
