It's über, not uber. That lack of umlaut bothers me no end. Maybe I'm nitpicky in this case, and perhaps that's because I've studied German for several years, but it's still annoying. Just like I get annoyed every time they show a Finnish name spelled wrong. Edi
It's every American's right to misspell foreign words at his leisure (can't speak for the Canadians), though generally I work hard to twist and destroy the pronunciation of most French words (Example: Pronununciation of Paris -- PA-RIS
not PA-RI like the Frogs pronounce it -- or pronouncing FI-LET MIG-NON, phonetically, just as it's spelled).

The Right To Be Wrong. That really IS so uniquely American. *laugh*

Whoa, guys, sorry about my lack of umlaut. Like I said, I've only seen the word used here on the board, where there have been no umlauts. Didn't mean to cause offence or irritation.

I would use the umlaut if I knew how to produce it.

If I could find the image map, I would use it, as well.

And if you started compounding the words like "Überweapon" or "Übervillain" it would really look German

I never heard it being used before coming to this forum niether. At first I thought that everybody was high and forgetting that it is spelled s-u-p-e-r but then I started to use it because it sounded better.

Does Linux support the ALT+0xxx extended character codes? I haven't had any luck when I tried... it seems to be a holdover from the days of DOS.

änne, not Selanne, that
ä is damn well a different letter than
a.

Yes, we have 29 letters in our alphabet, so sue me!
Anyway, yeah, I know, people don't really care, and neither do I for the most part, it's something that doesn't really have much of an impact on the big scheme of things. I just felt liek ranting on the subject.

You have to think of our poor english-speakers here, their keyboads are missing a lot of keys like accents, umlauts and cedilles (sp?).
We should help them so they can afford complete keyboards

Well, for Windows users, the System Tools folder under the Accessories menu should have the character map, which shows you what special characters you can do on any given font, and how. That's why I always spell Pokémon correctly.
Uber..

Ueber only really means super if one were to place it in certain context. Normally, one would use it to describe something in terms of "about" or "above." However, since german is famous for utilizing 40 words that mean the same thing, it can be difficult.
I.E. Weil, denn, da

I see the word on Diablo II: LoD when talking about very very good items.

Üü Finally!!! I have found the ascii code for the umlaut!!! Now I can explain why I type this ¤§¤. For I type ¤§¤ because it is more l337 than *S* which is an online salute. Why do a normal salute when you can produce an über salute?!?
I use über on a daily basis. Can't remember exactly were I heard it. Either from an online game, or the starwarsspacebattle chat room on AoL. People look at me and laugh. Like, wtf, that's not a word. I'm like, bitch, my über vocab is to complex for your meager understanding of language. Bwuhahahahaha!
