Perhaps I phrased that wrong, which I apologize for. I think my answer to Knife better suits my true feelings. For the record I am single, but I don't have gripes about V-day until the full capitolist swing hits and floods me with advertisments from telemarketers, emails, faxes, and mail that try to guilt people into buying stuff for people.
And as for all other holidays, I don't like the media's take on those either, but it doesn't particularly mean that I hate all holidays (though I dislike a good number).

To me the only real gripe I have with valentines day is that I am always single on valentines day, other than that it doesn't really bother me. And to make up for that I usually just throw a party to distrat myself from that. Having said that velentines day here does not seem to be as big a thing as it is in America.

I can live with Valentine's Day. But "Sweetest Day" has got to go. I don't even know the exact date, but it rolls around every year, and I'm left wondering what group of self-absorbed high school cheeleaders thought it up so they could have an excuse to demand free shit from their rich jock boyfriends.

It's a pseudo-holiday apparently invented by pubescent high school girls to get extra attention out of their boyfriends. One year, it just popped up, and it's stuck ever since then. I'm still baffled by it.

Must be regional. It hasn't spread up to Canada.

ST PATRICKS DAY!

I have no quams against that day, I'm British, there's always a party near by!
I also agree with everyone who says love should be 365 days not one!

Ugh, the power of memes, they just keep on spreading the stupidest thoughts and ideals forever and ever.

I've never heard of it in the States. It must be an Illinois thing or a High school thing.

These days mean something to me:
My birthday (yay for today!)
Rob's birthday
Our anniversary
These are a personal, important thing to celebrate. St Valentine's day is an artefact of a religion niehter of us belong to, with no physical reason for it.
I like to recieve flowers randomly, when he feels like it. I buy him presents when I see something I know he'll like, and I expect him to do the same. We eat at restaurants regularly, and have fantastic sex all the time.
So when Clintons tell us to celebrate, why the hell should we? he's working, (as I'm sure YB is), and I'm going to a gig.
So there.

Congrats, innerbrat, and happy birthday.
As far as Valentine's Day goes, it's nothing rally incredibly special, but it does make for one helluva way to make your partner feel really special, as well as the fact that it's basically another candy-ridden holiday next-day sale at Walgreen's, lol.

Valentine's day was made by Hallmark so they could get more cash from morons that can't right their own cards.
I loathe it....

Personally i detest Valentine's Day. It is an evil holiday designed by poeple in relationships to make people not in relationship feel like leapers.
