Have you tried out Fatal Frame? Seriously creepy games.Zixinus wrote:How did you get from RE being shit to me not liking survival horror? No, you just don't like survival horror, the games are perfectly good pieces of entertainment. One can say the same of any horror game out there. If it isn't an FPS, most people get bored. It's great that you shared that with us.
I played Penumbra and Silent Hill (a title I consider superior because there are far less fixed cameras) and liked them. Hell, I would add Condemned to the list.
I admit that I am not a big fan of horror in general, but I still like survival horror.

Re: RE5 TGS "Play God" Trailer
I don't know, makes the game less controllable? You can't see a zombie around the corner, controls are always awkward, you can't always figure what's background and what's not, etc. I don't hate the RE games alone for this; my hate is not spared even from the Alone in the Dark games. Though, those games at least had some excuse.I don't see how fixed cameras is a problem for the series.
An occasional fixed camera won't make me piss myself in anger. However, when the entire game is like that, it can get annoying. My main problem with RE-stlyed fixed cameras is that you can never quite figure where it will be and its really there to mask the fact that we don't have a true 3D environment. Or rather, a gorgeous 3D environments with all the time's graphical goodness. In some cases, a 3D environment with a adjustable camera would have to make the player exposed to sub-par graphics and that is such a horrible fate and it is more merciful to make the game more difficult.
Perhaps you learned to live with fixed camera games. I hate them.
No, I heard that they are only for the PS2. Also, the creepiness factor was mitigated by upcoming text like "perfect shot!". That, and the whole "cameras entrap ghosts" sorta makes the whole thing less creppy for me.Have you tried out Fatal Frame? Seriously creepy games.
Credo!

Reviewing clips from CVX and the other games Waugh did the voice in, I prefer Douglas' tone more now. It's really too bad the movies continued to butcher the games, because having seen Extinction this past weekend, the portrayal of Wesker in it was dismal. It couldn't be further from the way you can grasp the character even in this short trailer.Ford Prefect wrote:To be hoenst, my main complaint at the moment (simply because I can actually judge it from trailers) is that they aren't using Richard Waugh for Wesker's voice. It's kind of trivial because D.C. Douglas does a fine job, but I prefer the voice he had in RE4.

It's like they somehow didn't realise that Wekser was supposed to be pointlessly, comically evil. He was some dude in sunglasses in Extinction. The head scientist dude was closer to Wesker than movie Wesker.

I watched the trailer again. The voice acting is horrible, especially at 2:32. That's a shame.
Edit: Wesker sounds pretty bad as well.

Re: RE5 TGS "Play God" Trailer
The voice acting is awesome, especially Wesker's "I'm fucking more badass now" and Sheva's sexy sexy "locked and loaded" and Mr. Fireworks' "I did too much crystal meth before I die".
"Horrible", as defined in the OED, is any exchange in Resident Evil circa '96. Single handedly destroys any atmosphere, guaranteed.
I really need to find that sex skit using game sound clips again.
And yeah, movie Wesker was ridiculous. I expected him to whip out a portfolio rather than smack people around, gloat and try to not look any more pretentious by wearing shades at night.

Honestly, if you think this is 'horrible' voice acting (and while it's definitely cheesy it's by no means actually bad), your standards must be very high. MAybe it's just my inner fanboy though - where is STRAK to give me some grounding?

Re: RE5 TGS "Play God" Trailer
It's horrible, but it's only slightly below average for games and above-average for RE games. I can't think of a game with voice acting I'd even describe as 'good' using actual acting standards - even Mass Effect isn't 'good', it's just 'professional'.
And it's suits the game and the character, so who cares? Nobody takes RE games seriously so going for a more 'sensible' style of VA would be out of place.

Thank you STRAK, that accurately codifies my sentiments regarding the voice acting.
