Now the big question...
Should I get this for console (360) or PC?

Since it's a Bethesda game, I strongly suspect that it will be heavily modded in the near future, so getting it on 360 would make you miss out on that. If you're the type to just play through a couple of times and then move on, that won't matter to you, but if you're the type to play a game continually for maybe 1 year or so, enjoying user-made mods to change stuff or add stuff, then get it for PC.

Actually, morphine is Med-X, not the stimpak.

I own a house in Megaton as well. Last night, I was wandering back from Minefield, exploring empty green arrow locations, when I came across a burned out church that is apparently a favorite place for muties to hide out. As I am only level 5, a large boulder became my best friend in this encounter. one of the muties was wielding a minigun and had no qualms about spray and praying from 200 meters, which netted few hits, but BOY did it hurt! I managed to take out three other muties (One stupidly Klingon rushed me with a nail-board. Here is a hint for you super mutants out there: Mutie with nailboard vs. squishy human with AK-47 = you lose.)
One thing is bugging me, though - using the VATS from cover, you may be able to target a MOB and have a 95% hit chance - but if the target moves just so before executing the action - you may end up firing into a wall, or a rock, or whatever you're hiding behind - I hope they fix that.
I also discovered Big Town. They wanted me to go rescue their friends from a gang of super muties who'd kidnapped them....Needless to say, after being chased halfway across the Capital Wastes by a brute with a minigun (And even then, he only stopped because he got into a firefight with a protectobot), that item is pretty far down my list of things to do - In other news, I'm off to rescue some idiot from a bunch of ants tonight. Wish me luck...My high speech skill will accomplish precious little to convince the ants not to filet me like the catch of the day.

Shit, man, do Minefield, don't lie about it. It nets you a good amount of ammo and cash, a Stealth Boy, a .308 sniper rifle, and ~30 frag mines, which translates as (with my low-ass barter skill) 420 caps for 15 weight, plus all the exp for disarming each one of those mines, picking a few locks if you can, and nailing the one loony sniper. Granted, he can be a pain, he likes shooting cars you're near, but I got a lucky one-hit-kill with the hunting rifle from 3/4 of the town away. For long range shots against stationary targets, fuck VATS.

If I had known Stealth Boys expire, I wouldn't have used one up to get past some of those damn Crab mutant ... things in the underground way to get to The Family's hideout (you know, past the Ghoul making Ultrajet).
The difficulty in this game is so much better than Oblivion - scaling is practically non-existent, I just got out of the fight of my life with a pair of Supermutants near the open air cinema, one of whom had a minigun - I took him out with two frag grenades (my explosive skill is shit as it's not my focus, but they did manage to easily kill a Protrectron) and several Hunting Rifle shots.
Then I forgot to save and got killed by a pair of fucking Mole Rats.
I'm almost at Level 5, I'm annoyed I haven't found a replacement for my pistol (unless you count the scoped .44, which I've got hardly any ammo for).
EDIT: and make sure you check Simms' house in Megaton for a bobble-head that increases your strength by +1.

Dude----what is a stealth boy? And I did not disarm a single mine. I would get close, then BLAMMO Do you have to sneak? I got blowed up about 10 times because I could not get out of the way fast enough

And the evil mine placement
No mines right

Hah! Got you @#$@$, where's your leg now.
Yeah, some places traps are obvious and some other places I've been... it's been EVIL

If you do the Mirelurk quest she gives you three Stealth Boys (As long as you don't kill any, it can be done, just go in the door, hang a right, then while sneaking jump over the ledge, sneaking all the time, put the tracer in the eggs then leg it for the door not shooting any of them)
All her quests are like that. You do the basic quest, then do the optional and get an extra nice reward. (In most cases.. MUCH nicer)

Ah, so the SB is a quest reward, not something lying around in the town? No problem then, I just haven't done the Mirelurk part yet.

No in that case the Steath-boy was laying around I believe in the Sniper's cash atop the building.
Do that mission at night 1000x easier. The glow of the mines shows up better.
Also to the earlier question about mines. Go into sneak mode and rush them, you'll hear the beep to arm, but if your fast enough you can hit your interact key quick enough to disarm them. On the PC is's very easy to do, dunno about consoles.

15-25 bottle-caps you just passed up friend.
And nothing says fun like used capture mines to lure various baddies into.

Well, I mean, I've only got 25 explosive skill and I didn't reazlie you had to sneak up on it. Also - I did not see a stealth boy in the sniper's nest cache...but on the console version spotting stuff on the ground is REALLY difficult. But it should be, IMHO, so I'm not complaining.

I have 17 explosive skill, mines don't require much in the way of skill to disarm, just sneak and rush it. You can be standing and rush it, but you have to be PERFECT.

I decided to try something insane today. Met a patrol of B.O.S Outcasts (the Black Power Armor is seriously cool shit) and figured "what the heck, I want that armor". So I tried to kill 'em. At this point I had Combat Armor and Combat Helmet with the better Assault Rifle (not the Chinese one) as my main weapon and a Combat Shotgun as the 'fuck them in the face' gun. So, I fire up two missiles at the guy carrying a minigun looking thing. He doesn't die and apparently, it's a gatling laser. I managed to survive for a whole 5 seconds. Well, to make a long story short, after five tries I kill them all with no stimpaks, food or missiles left. I rejoice as I pick up the Power Armor and get stymied by the screen telling me I need Power Armor training.....fuck. After that, back to killing raiders.

It's actually repair skill that decides how much time you have to sweet talk those explosives. (And other misc. traps.)
But indeed, it's fun. Supposedly if you put an explosive (Mine/grenade) into someone's inventory while you pick pocket them, you rig it to go off. Haven't done it myself, but it sounds fun.

So this is why FC2 has more posts than this thread.
I can't wait to play this on my bro's PS3 when I go home the weekend after.

Further thoughts.
I really love Dogmeat, <Bark><Bark>!
He's handy in combat, he's a smart doggie and more to the point he is companionship. He's killable but it's hard best he seems to have Wolverine healing. IE get into a massive fight and he's instantly nearly fully healed right after.... but not always. I've seen him limping and whining after a fight and I worked my hardest to get him healed up ASAP because I don't want to see him go.
Also VATS? Sometimes that Camera angle is @#$@ great. I've twice seen Super-mutants heads pop in glorious 3D slow-motion and watched it slowly slump to the ground, body suddenly limp.

Oh. Well, a follow-up trip to Minefield then. Funny I didn't notice the thing earlier, I looted just about everything else from the sniper's place. And I did do it at night, I've already taken to the habit of only doing ruin-crawling and assorted fun stuff only at night. Daytime is for selling the spoils and mucking about in the town, night is when the action starts. I think I'll take Night Person perk once that becomes available

So which one's the better post-apocalyptic game, FO 3 or S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?
