It goes without saying that that there will be a constitutional crisis if Little Hitler doesn't believe in the authority of the judicial branch if and when the issue reaches the USSC and it rules against the government. IIRC there aren't any consitutional safeguards to dispose of an executive (branch) that doesn't abide by supreme court rulings; the only trap doors are Congress removing Ashcroft, the armed forces 'reminding' (at bayonet point if need be) the executive that everyone in uniform swears to uphold the constitution, or the consitution getting thrown out the window. My money is on the last option.

Thankfully I am not an American and under no circumstances will I set foot on US soil until well after the current authoritarian regime has been deposed.

Heil Ashcroft!

What do you expect from a ULTRA CONSERVATIVE FUNDAMENTALIST?

He wants nothing more than a police state to keep those evil liberals/atheist/non-white/foreigners/catholics/jews/non-christians from his perfect world. And he has just the president to help him.

BTW he LOST to a DEAD MAN in the senate race.

There's no need to worry. They're only taking left-wing Muslim men with long and/or strange hair styles. Us down home Christian white men with proper hair cuts have nothing to fear. After all, we all know, Father Bush knows best.
damn. I'm a white male christian who has long hair and dresses in arabic clothing.

Funny how a little ways down we currently have a thread going in which people questioned why Americans see a need for guns to protect freedoms…

Given that British Political leader has been proposing similar measures along with large anti privacy bills recently, I think there the ones who should be afraid, not the citizens of the literal Arsenal of Democracy..

Yeah, It's so fucking funny......the liberals are whining that we don't need
guns, and then Asscroft comes along with this stupid bullshit plan, and they're
all abuzz with talk about assassinations......tee hee......

SEE HOW WE FELT DURING KLINTON?

We had to put up with crap every week about how Cliton was tearing the
bill of rights to pieces to promote his agenda, and now you're only waking
up to the fears of big government run amok? My god, this is priceless.

Just like our friend bush won because of those nitwits who voted for nadar, they are caused that whole mess of counting and recounting votes for both bush and gore.

that appears to be the only thing both liberals and conservatives agree on, considering how close the election was.

I forget his name but the Person Ashcroft was running aginst died in a Plane Crash a Week Before the Voting and the Dead Guy still got over 60% of the Vote(He won by default because the other guy died)

So the vote was a formality but still many people voted for that dead guy

Not quite. When Ashcroft's opponent died, the wife took over the campaign. In cases when someone dies during an election, their spouse takes over. Ashcroft lost to the widow, who ran on her husband's ticket.

And then he got promoted to the AG position. Gotta love how things
work out...

All those who are of voting age write your congressmen and threaten not to vote for them unless they do something now.

That should get the attention of those vote vultures :(

I'm pretty sure Ashcroft's idea will get voted against in Congress unanimously. Perhaps when Ashcroft sobers up, he'll regret it. Perhaps if he keeps this up, he'll get impeached.

Well well, this goes someway to confirming a theory of mine.
After Mcarthy's communist witch hunts, you could say that America would never fall to communism, but there is evry risk that America could fall to fascism, Ashcroft tends to confirm it.

Don't bet on it. The United States has always looked kindly on authoritarianism, particularly in cases where the associated abuses of power are directed towards leftists or groups on the edges of society. Ashcroft's position will be perfectly safe as long as he restrains himself to only locking up Muslims and arabs. The only way he'll get his head handed to him in Congress is if he engages in every fundamentalist zealot's fantasy of locking up Democrats as enemies of the state.
