That actually has some truth to it. Survivor, who wants to be a millionare, big brother, american idol and many others all are complete copies of shows that aired in europe...mostly the UK.

so nearly every one of these reality shows that are supposedly evidence of the 'decline of American society' actually originate in Europe. hmmmmm, now tell me again who's society is in 'moral decline'?

Bah. The drunken idiot masses can have cable TV. It belongs to them and their glassy-eyed high-school-dropout stares.
The rest of us have actual literature, movies, video games, art and porn. The majority of entertainment medis is still solidly and comfortably making me happy.

Comedy Central hasn't escaped the reality TV bit, with Insomniac and Travel Sick. Travel Sick is as dull as dirt, but at least Insomniac takes a viable principle and makes fun of it, rather than taking a stupid principle and trying to take it seriously.
I read a recent article online that indicates there are at least 20 more reality shows in the works. They have to make a ton of them since no one watches reruns, but they're so cheap per episode, somewhere between $500K to $700K each.
WTF?!?!!? That fucking does it! I'm not watching TV anymore except for sci-fi, music vids (to get MP3 ideas, natch), and my Playstation 2!!! Fuck Network TV!

you know what, at least it is something diferent. i for one am tired of shitty sit-coms and shitty dramas, and from the look of the ratings, so are the majority of the american people. there are only a handfull of quality shows on all of television, IMHO...and most of those are on cable. The Sopranos is outstanding...Six Feet Under is pretty damn good too. The Shield is decent, although a little bit too intense for me. what do the 6 broadcast networks offer? ER has been tired and overdone for years now, and how many goddamn crime shows do we need? So, say what you will about reality, but the way i see it, it is just a case of the networks reacting (poorly) to a demand for something new.

Vivendi has taken a great movie and is making a shitty sequel out of it.

Funnily enough, we've already done

But still so much better than the UK's medical dramas. In fact, a lot of American drama is lightyears ahead of ours (although I don't think
The Shield is a patch on
Red Cap).

Alot of American drama is excellent, I agree.
But many, many of them aren't worth shit, and the sitcoms are worse.
(excluding the Simpsons.)

Still, I remember when I was growing up in New Zealand, there were some very good shows on. Not imported from the UK or even Aussieland, but our own sitcoms and dramas. Not alot to watch, but what little shows we had were excellent.

And they've been airing "Fear Factor"-style shows down in South America for a long time now.

Maybe that's why they do so much reality TV. Perhaps if the spoiled casts of non-reality shows would settle down for less money per episode, then there would be one less excuse for reality TV.

BTW, not all of them are bad. The Osbournes is pretty damned good. Particularly since I want to fuck Kelly Osbourne until she turns inside out.

This "Reality shows" trend may actually turn out to be nothing more than a trend. Perhaps it will fade away as culture gets tired of them.
Will something worse take its place?
Well, there's been stuff told around about how gladiator-like stuff may become prominent.

Just the simple premise of the show makes me sick. 'Are You Hot' makes Survivor look like a PBS show...
TV has hit another new low.
PBS has had reality shows, 1900, 1850 and some other houses which take a modern family and puts them in a restored house of that period. Then watch them cope.
