The problem with this, from a developer's point of view, is balance. They don't want people to get pissed off and give up because they've been killed ten times by the one Jap Rush. They've got to try and keep the game moving, and sadly, sometimes that means you get a free pass.

Have you tried the multiplayer games of previous COD series?

Such as COD: United offensive?

COD:WOW can't match that game in regards to the use of tanks. The maps in WOW aren't designed for the use of tanks at all!

I haven't tried United Offensive, however I've tried all the others. Maybe CoD4 would have benefited more from using UO's multiplayer. As it stands I like how World at War plays online more than CoD4. Honestly I might like it because it's new, or because I feel it takes care of several issues I have with 4.

You have to love some of the hypocrisy in multiplayer games, there was a server that had as a rule "no grenade launchers", yet one player was in using the two primary weapons perk with grenade launchers on each. He would always use the same tactic and because players eventually took cover he called us 'camping noobs'. I haven't play COD4 multiplay for a while and felt it was getting ruined by the lame types. I liked to play with a variety of kits but never used the Grenade Launcher.

Oh Jesus, less than a month and the broken game balance and lame arbitrary server rules are already showing up? Now I remember why I stopped playing multi games.

I'm pretty sure we're referring to CoD4 and its grenade rape. If otherwise, I haven't played CoD5 enough to bitch about it...yet.

Shit my bad. :)

Not like it isn't going to happen though. Eventually, a de facto 'best class' will be found and the game will be over. The point is just to enjoy the game until it got to that point. Remember how a year after Rainbow 6 was released everyone found out the FAMAS was the best gun and now everyone just uses that? Devs can buy time rebalancing the equipment or adding lots of new content...ok I can't even say that with a straight face. It's not like they'd ever do that kind of shit. It takes time, money, and work. Three things developers are chronically incapable of organizing and using effectivley.

Remember, you can't use the most effective weapon because that's a 'noob cannon'. Map sploits, on the other hand, are 'a part of the game'.

Gah ... I'm damned near necroing a dead thread!

Apropos, while I see y'all are none too enamored with the campaign ( ), I'm curious: has anyone played Nacht Der Untoten?

I'm not about to say it's revolutionary or some such thing, but I thoroughly enjoy Nazi Zombies and would love to play it co-op. My best game to-date's round 10.

I actually liked the campaign, it wasn't oscar worthy, but it was fun. Well, to me at least. As for those spoilerized parts, I like the change that it brings, I just want more levels!

Same here. My main gripe about the campaign was that it seemed entirely too short (which, on a semi-related note, was also my biggest problem with "BIA: Hell's Highway." I enjoyed that game, but the end came so quickly I felt like I was with a $50 hooker who charged by the minute).

How far have you gotten into Nazi Zombies? Even when I luck out and get the raygun, I'm usually overwhelmed by round 8 or 9 :-\

By myself, I suck and can only get to level 4 or five. The highest I got on a team was 15. As for the campaign, I'm sick of fighting Nazis. I'm sick of playing Russians, and I want to see an entire pacific campaign, maybe encompassing the Philippines and the Chinese resistance or rape of Nanking. I'm just damn tired of European campaigns.

My favorite "Lame Server Rules" are the "no fowl language/cursing" rules. Most of which i've encountered in gory splatter-fest games.

I used to think that most online games sucked because admins were never around. It turns out most online games suck regardless of whether or not admins are around, because most admins are idiots.

I've heard some servers actually hire admins because they're "the best regular player" on the server. Do you mean in terms of sportsmanship or lame score point whoring? They never specify, but I can guess which one.

Banzai rushes are far to easy, even when the bastards get you it's nothing like dogs in CoD4, where the timing was all fucked. Grenade spam is still prevalent, your allies are still useless, clown closets are still on sale, but the game is still fun. Annoying as a bitch, but fun. Still would wait for the price to go down a bit, not paying $50 bucks for CoD4 with new skins and guns.

It amazes me that people are so aware of CoD's faults in its single player. I think the reason the game's multi is so popular is largely because the game doesn't feel cheap when played with people who are under the same limitations as you. The problem is that the grass isn't really greener on the other side, since most online gamers are self-interested douche bags. That's why multi frag em ups are appealing to me less and less.

I know this is a necro but it is a recent CoD5 thread...

Anyone else have horrible crash problems with it? This single handedly kicked me back to CoD4 over the last 2 weeks, it drove me insane. I'd say the games crashed on me over a dozen times -- hard resets, BSOD every time that it happens, peculiarly, when I leave a game and SHOULD then see the multiplayer menu. It never spontaneously happens while shooting someone or connecting to a server, though I've ALSO had server connection issues, it's nothing with blows up the computer, it just kicks me immediately from the server.
CoD5's black mark atm is BUGS.

I read that the fix though is to install Direct X 9.0 August edition and restart the computer. (this is apparently the root of the problem; I have XP Pro btw and a 7000 series nVidia Go GPU) I'll see if this works in case anyone else has the same problems as me.

On the plus side about CoD5 I just learned, prestige on the pc = win. Why? Cause of 4000 xp servers. (as in 4 kills and you're already a Master Sergeant) I have 10 custom classes already. Took maybe 2 hours, heh.
