A lot of the time when it drops out I'm not even aware of it as the program reconects itself. Since I run Netscape over AOL it generally doesn't interupt my SD.NET experience. Any advantages of using AOL 8 versus 6? I only use the AOL frontend to establish a connection (duh!) and for e-mail, so any additional functuality is a non-issue. Any improvements in stability/resource usage?

And I'm not shelling out that much money for a connection I'll for all practical purposes only use on weekends. Working for an IT company does have fringe benefits :D
50 bucks is the base price. I get 70% off of 50 bucks man. That less than what you would pay for a dial-up connection.
Tremble, dial-up users, before my Internet Line Supremo! :D

How much does your dial up cost over there?....yeesh. It's a tenner a month...no phone call charges here
Dial up is ten bucks for a month here. I get my DSL line and all the goodies for somewhere around 6 bucks. :D
( I know it's not exactly 70% percent. Sue me. I can't think.)

It has a lot of improvements to email. You can sort your incoming email by catagory (IIRC: Everyone, People I know, unknown, bulk senders). Plus there's a button at the bottom to help you deal with spam. It will delete the mail, block that address for you, and forward the spam to AOL's spam department.

The address book is a bit different. It allows you to sort the names more plus it will automatically add names when you send emails. Also, like AOL 7.0 a copy of your address book is stored online so when you sign on as a guest or use AOL Anywhere you will have access to your address book. Of course this means that potentially someone else could have access to it as well.

There's a lot of other stuff too but right now this is all I could think of based on what you said you use. Oh, and of course the auto-reconnect feature. :D

Glad you like my Zorg sponsor photo. :D

At home, I have cable. It varies from 400 to 500 Kps, according to the hour of the day.

At work, I usually get speeds from 500 up to 1000 Kps.

$60 for a <1.5Mbps (in other words FASTER than a T1!!!) Cable connection. Every now and then it drops, especially when the COX (my isp) server develops issues. Thunderstorms don't stop it, floods don't stop it, and Hurricanes don't stop it (Yes I've surfed the Net in a hurricane.. 3 of em last summer!) Just when the server gets "issues"... Go figure.

EDIT: Just tested at http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

2.5Mbps!!! W00t. R0X0R OMG!!! lmao

I pay $85 for my broadband cable connection.....but with that deal I also get 400 channels of beatiful, digital cable TV. I live in wisconsin, and I get local sports coverage from Detroit. It kicks ass.

Average Connection Speed: <22-kps

While at home, I am almost EXACTLY like that, here at school though, completely different story. 500kb/s T1 broadband, baby (download a full 650mb movie in a couple hours)!

I'd say I have a pretty bad connection. It's a slow 28k dial up, and is quite unpredictable too, since at times, it just won't be cooperative and load. Also, I on;y have one phone line in my house, so I can only use it at ceratin times.

At home I get 42-50k and some regular dropouts.

I also have a 4 hour timeout that sometimes chooses to enforce itself at random intervals AFTER the 4 hours which makes download scheduling a whore.
