'it's abanonware now'

Oh man. Stealing is fun!

With a new frontend, D3D is pretty good. It's only the obtuse level design that hurts it, but fir people who already finished it that's not really a problem. It's better than 2009 shovelware shooters.

My SNES still works like new. OK, sure, you have to reinsert the game a few times sometimes to get the system to play it, but it's still just a minor annoyance.

Anyways, I still sometimes play Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Killer Instinct, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past.

Also, my kid brother got his hands on PS1 disk that has a collection of Sonic games originally for the Sega Genesis. Recently, however, me, my kid sister, and my kid brother have been using it to play the included Sonic tetris game.

I still play my antique Buck Rogers Countdown to Tuesday; it's good nostalgia but the structural problems in the AD&D system (and the serious simplification from the Gold Box version) make the lategame super lameo.

If I could, I'd be playing:

Tiberian Dawn
Red Alert
Tiberian Sun
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri: Alien Crossfire (that one just...never really got old for me)
Close Combat: Invasion Normandy
Halo: CE
Halo 2

Also, if I could I'd wip out the good ol' Sega Genesis and play some Toe Jam & Earl or Sonic or this one helicopter simulator that I can't remember the name of right now. My parents donated that system after Hurricane Ike trashed the house though.

Sometimes I still play Starcraft. I don't know if Megamek also counts, but it's based on a board game from decades passed so there's that.

And of course, I play minesweeper all the time.

I guess if you consider that old, I still play Unreal Tournament 2004 and Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict. Both of them are a part of the same universe and feature the same characters, but they're radically different games. UC2 features a simple and easy to pick up (but surprisingly difficult to master) melee system that I thought brought something new and refreshing to the series. Unreal Tournament III was a bit of a letdown for me, unfortunately, after I quickly got over how amazing the graphics were.

Actually, with From Sumter to Appomattox, the designer himself has authorized downloads and actively encourages people to get it if they want to. He's still making games for Matrix now, so I think he's mostly interested in seeing his work live on.

From time to time I keep reinstalling the original Doom games (with the reworked engines, I need mouselook) to indulge in some massive shooting of angry things.

Why not? :P It was built for a gaming system one generation old. Man...get with the program!

Nah, it's not really that old, but I thought that since it was made for the base xbox then it might slip in there.

All my games are old, actually. I got E:TW but it sucks, and runs like shit on my system, so I never play it. Going back in the past, the most recent game before that was Spore, which I do enjoy but don't play very often. The most recent game I play with any semblance of regularity is Titan Quest, which is more than three years old. Others include R:TR, BG2, Sim City 4: Rush Hour, and Half Life 2(the original, no expansions).

One game that I wish to death that I could still play is ST: Armada(for the STvSW mod, of course). Unfortunately, I don't think it'll run on XP SP3 any more, so my only hope is like a Win98 virtual machine or somesuch.

Damn, I remember having that, I might still have it in the attic somewhere, but I could never get hold of the next game in the series, Matrix Cubed.

Bugger this, that's two more games to go in the wishlist in GOG. :)

As to my list

Planescape Torment
Broken Sword 1 and 2
I did have Gabriel Knight 1 and 2 until I lent them out and never saw them again
Wing Commander IV and Prophecy

Sadly, still playing Homeworld 2.

Messy, broken, fucking ugly, but still the original Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis still gets a play from me time to time. A testament to its timelessness thanks to its open design.

Klingon Academy. Amazingly I found a computer in my house with hardware that is OLD ENOUGH to run it.

Jedi Outcast. Garbage gameplay design, atrociously bad writing, but hey, no other game I know of letting you do real time lightsaber fights. Even if they're spastic and broken. :)

To me, old games are anything before DooM (the original PC game from the 90s). But I guess by the standards of most of you kids out here, the rest also qualify as old games.

Afterwards (Q3 mod, PC) If you have an old Q3 disc laying around gathering dust, install it again and download the MOD. You'll have a blast! It's got some cool weapons.

Quake2 (PC, and PSX port) The CD audio tracks are rocking! Atmosphere, enemies... A must in any self-respecting gaming collector.

Chrono Trigger (SNES - PSX port) Magus is my favourite character. Also the music was excellent... Too bad it had to be conveyed by such a primitive system.

Chrono Cross (PSX) Ah, the music on this one!

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PSX) IMHO, much better story than most of the recent incarnations of RE.

Battle Arena Toshinden 3 (PSX) Easy and amusing gameplay. Good for playing with your girlfriend! Also, look at that first contender, Ten Count... who could that be based on? His theme was a winner, if you like jazz!

Dino Crisis 2 (PSX) I taught my girlfriend how to play this game... and she's become quite the expert! I'm no match for her now :P !

Ultimate DooM (PSX version) Try it, if only for the special music tracks. It's what I listened to while reading "Armageddon???". It's got the whole "hell-feeling" nailed down.

Resident Evil: Survivor (PSX)

Combat (Atari 2600) Awesome for playing against somebody who's not used to joysticks!

Yars' Revenge (Atari 2600) Addictive.

PacMan (Arcade -emulated; NES port)

Tempest (Arcade - emulated)

Dig Dug (NES port)

oh, and many more...

I'm such a sucker for old school games
(wait, if you actually got to play them when they were new, do you still get to call them "old school"?)

Liero and C&C Generals: Zero Hour are probably the old games that I play the most. The first because it's a quick little drunken fun, and Zero Hour because I'm making a TC for it.

Oh man. Metatwaddle and I got her little sister two Classic Controllers for the Wii and downloaded Sonic the Hedgehog for her birthday, and that got me to hook up the SNES for some Super Mario World and Super Mario All-Stars. I'll probably end up replaying Super Metroid and Link to the Past soon, too.

On the PC, I still play Sim City 4 (heavily modded), but that's not nearly as antique as the SNES.

Ah, but can you still use the nine-finger control system required to look, lean, strafe, run, juggle the UI -and- fight? Before we were spoilt by mouselook and sensible controls, it took so many more skills to drive complex shooters. :)
