There was Exanimus up until last year. Perhaps something will come along and reanimate the idea.

Who would want to be a human in such a MMO? You're basically meat to the other two.
Not if you the love of the Vampire's existence!

See, just have someone else claim they desire you above all else and come to sweep you away to their Bavarian castle just up the street and BAM! You can have your fantastic anal sex festival of joy-joy feelings.

Those are anime. There is very little anime I truly like, so yeah, full stop there.
Technically, Arcueid, Remilia, and Flandre all originated from video games (the actual Tsukihime anime was so bad that people disavow its existence, while there is no official anime based on the Touhou Project), so you should actually be fine there.

On the other hand, if you took Remilia and Flandre's respective powers at face value, they'd be game breakers.

Really don't think MMOs can do a modern world yet, imagine 99% of the buildings being locked. Only seen one procedural design style but it just randomizes the building layouts and content, not sure how realistic that can be, maybe if it's a sci-fi world can get away with it.

^Oh, you mean like City of Heroes? And I like City of Heroes, despite its flaws. To be fair, any videogame with any sort of populated settlement is full of innacessible buildings and repetitive design patterns, so it is hardly an MMO-exclusive limitation.

I agree with the notion that we should get a Zombie Apocalypse MMO, maybe L4D Online?

Only ginormous.
More like Urban Dead, only a videogame.

Once again, Exanimus was meant to serve that role, but I believe hearing that it died in production.

Not only is your 'justification' jawdroppingly lame, I like the implication that a guy who can push an aircraft carrier halfway across the world and fights a guy who cuts apart entire blocks of London cityscape and a chick who can make people explode by looking at them funny and fights a guy who can shoot elephants out of his body would somehow not be 'gamebreaking'.

Why do people keep saying things like this? Have none of you played an MMO? A 'zombie themed' MMO would be a) complete balls like Autoassault/RF Online or b) WoW with a reskin.

This is fact, not conjecture. The realities of the MMO market (and MMO play conceptually and as a business model) mean whatever ridiculous OPEN WORLD DYNAMIC FLEXIBLE REAL-TIME ZOMBIE DEFENCE SIMULATOR WITH CONSTANT ENCROACHING DANGER AND WEAPON SCAVENGING AND SHIT will never happen.

L4D... ONLY GINORMOUS!!!!!111

Until you get the notion that it might be profitable into some Korean game company, and voilá, we get Legend of the Zombie Massacre Hero Online.

MMOs don't need to be RPGs by the way. A Zombie Apocalypse MMO would probably work better as a set of instanced battlezones (Did Planetside work like that?) rather than open world questing areas, but can't disagree with Stark about the market not being kind to such a notion. It would be nice if more developers aimed for niche markets instead of trying to be WoW 2.0, but hey, what would we complain about then?

Also, isn't there a Hello Kitty MMO? *Google-fu* Oh fuck.

One big problem with the idea of a real-time zombie MMO is that zombies aren't really much of a threat. Zombie movies have to have their setups obviously engineered to put the humans at a disadvantage and zombies tend to be the weakest enemies in any video game in which they appear. I'm not sure how an open-ended game in which you do nothing but fight zombies could work.

And what kind of game would it be? PS - NOT LIKE URBAN DEAD. It would be Flyff with more greyness and the same 'kill 30 wolves zombays' missions FOREVER just like every other lowend MMO.

LOL! At least you accept that this would never, ever sell. Non-RPG MMOs would be pretty refreshing, but the track record is absurdly poor and the MMO playerbase is pretty much the 'grind to increase numbers on screen' crowd, which leans toward RPG very easily. From a certian perspective the Endwar online 'tournament' WW3 thing is an 'MMO', after all.

Nah, I think there'd be missions like "Find and kill 5 rats so you can eat them and not starve to death." And the alternate way to complete the mission is to find and kill another player so you can eat him and not starve.

Hey, that would even make doing the same missions over and over make sense! "Drink 1 gallon of water so you don't die." can be a repeatable mission every day!

Listen to yourself. Why would this game break the mold for theme when mmos never do? Pvp based games are alway less popular than pcs games, so it's even worse.

Go on, make an mmo where you have to keep logging in to catch rats or you die. I dare you. Ps it was done in the 90s and it sucked.

Come to think of it, Korean MMOs are Zombie Apocalypse scenarios already, with hordes of ravening players zombies mindlessly attacking the world's inhabitants just to loot them feed off their entrails.

Did I say Korean? meh, it applies to all MMOs.

It would also include PvP. Bands of marauders and raiders would pop up in such a post-apocalyptic scenario, so you can bet that there will be a lot of NPCs and players who decide to fight for their resources.

Don't worry about Stark, Much like certain Religious fanatics he is convinced that all MMO's will be World of Warcraft Clones for all time. Little things like facts won't get the way of his need to be a asshole on every subject. Things like Huxley or the Agency will never be released, and Planetside and WWII Online never existed. Even halfway projects like Tabula Rasa were never made.

Do not question! Do not believe your eyes or your ears, there is no truth but the Stark truth!
Or so he would have you believe.

Except that in that case the human enemies would outclass the zombies by so much that you might as well not call it a zombie game and simply treat it as Mad Max with a few corpses walking around.

Which, come to think of it, might actually be pretty cool.

Or, it could be done so that instead of hit points, it has a system more like Bushido Blade, insofar as certain hits will maim you, while others will outright kill you and turn you into one of the horde of ravenous dead.

It'd be cool if you could build some sort of permanent structure to make fortifications and go out and scavenge goods to create some sort of settlement, or something.

Funny enough, just last month I started thinking about an MMO like that. I'd like to see a very detailed building and customization engine; not just for making structures, but also customizing your equipment. Like welding sheet metal to your car to add extra armor and spikes for extra ramming damage, or duct-taping two magazines together for faster reloading. Maybe even rigging up a system on your vehicle to dump several live grenades behind your car for discouraging pursuers and wreaking havoc on a drive, or armoring a semi and adding gun turrets to make a mobile base.

New stuff, like vehicles, weapons, and locations, could be added through online updates so that the game is constantly growing instead of being stuck with the same items for long periods of time until an expansion is added.

The thought of the reaction from telling the players that a certain Air Force base has appeared and has plenty of military equipment for the taking makes me giddy. Imagine the mad rush of players who know where the base is to get to it and steal all planes and munitions for themselves. Seriously, you'd have an entire ARMY of players in trucks, helicopters, boats, whatever, all racing to the base. Then a massive battle that breaks out over the rewards at the base. Lots of fireworks.

I've thought long and hard about this and the only thing that comes to mind is.... Zombies, and it's a shame because I'd love a good End of the World Zombie Apocalypse MMO. But I'm sure someone will love the idea of Sparkle Vampires VS Werewolves VS Humans.

In fact dare I say it I might be interested in this MMO if only I can be a Human will a flamethrower running around to interrupt all the RPing Sparklebunnies. This in fact may be the first MMO where I want to play it, specifically to Grief my fellow players. Griefing happens in all games, but this may be the first MMO I've heard about where I am uninterested in the game but very interested in the Griefing.

Prehaps I have finally discovered what all those Profanity spewing twelve year old on Xbox Live know, that being an asshole can be both fun and rewarding.
They were actually making a zombies MMO but it's currently bogged down and has been put on hold indefinitely.
