I simply don't believe people use it in that fashion (ie, shorthand for 'it is addicting me/my mum/that guy'). I think people CLAIM that after you point out what they said was wrong and look up the usage - I think that they simply use it because they honestly thing addicting = addictive because of stupid nerd websites (some of which use 'addicting' wrong IN THEIR GODDAMN NAMES).
