What makes the Chinese Stealth suit so absurd is if you are into HtH, you can literally stun/kill, sneak, stun/kill, sneak and laugh you ass off as nothing notices you ...even on very hard. Still for it's flaws, I find it more enjoyable then most games. And still love the screams from the Fallout purity crowd.

There's no question Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games of recent times. I don't mind how much stuff is 'broken', I
like it when you become an unstoppable badass at the end of games - it's working up to something.
As for the Fallout purity crowd, they've always been a bunch of hypocritical dumbkopfs - I bet they whinge about Fallout 3's many exploits and gameplay contrivances but cling desperately to the idiocy in Fallout 1 and 2, like the "aim for the eyes" (which somehow only blinds the enemy!) absurdity.

Well the Fallout purists do have some points in that Fallout 3's story is absurd (not sci-fi absurd, not 50's absurd, just absurd).
Even if it made sense I can think of few things less epic than regional water purification.
Nor does the world make sense for 200 years after the bombs fell. I mean come on there's a police station with just-after-the-war tents still up with a computer outside and it's all been exposed to the elements for 2 centuries? Blow me.
Aside from that it does capture the atmosphere pretty well.

Pfft, Fallout has always been absurd, and complaining that Fallout 3 has some weird story/technology issues, and 1-2 are okay is a reason I look at the purist as dumbfuck hypocrites. The fact that all these guns, high tech materials and everything are functioning and more being pumped out with almost no sign of industry is some of the funnier points in comparison to tents/building and such not still around and functioning.
Hell, it gets funnier when one sees there are people who scream that Fallout 2 wasn't pure enough to be considered a sequel is why I love hearing the screams of the purists.

LOL, that bit of gameplay exploits always gets to me, given how easy it was to do so in Fallout 1 or 2. Both of those games were nothing more then "Learn Steal, then use save/load, and exploit on shopkeepers, then go back to the first real quest as a demigod of war.". That much I will give of Fallout 3. I could exploit a lot of things but I didn't enter Megaton with Power Armor and a Gauss rifle/Plasma rifle because I knew where to steal it from.

Yeah but like I said there's absurd and then there's *absurd*.
Sure a big old flesh blob trying to dominate the world with his giant incredible hulks orcs super mutants or the EVIL remnant of the U.S. government wanting to poison everyone are daft as hell but at least there's some degree of importance and epicness over "we need to purify the water! Yeah every vault can do that, but that's just vaults! ... okay and Megaton... okay and Tenpenny Tower.. shut up alright? You're ruining my heroic death!"
Edit: And Broken Steel makes it even worse, even though it's implied to be a purification of the entire ocean basin (however that works) instead it's just a glorified regular water purifier controlled and distributed entirely by those jackholes in the BoS who have the unmitigated gall to stamp their own brand on bottles of this water.

But that is still nitpicking in lieu of far larger things such as the fact that the world has immense amount of modern articles and futuristic varieties...yet no industry anywhere(and really the Pitt makes it worse). I can easily accept giant super purifiers, space mutants, aliens who like to poke Brahmin with their space guns when taken I am walking and running around is functional armor that is not only repairable, but reproducable and weaponry that is littered around enough that your average Mad Max wannabe carries one.
As for urgency, it's all a matter of taste. Fallout 3 wanted the issue to be about whether or not is it worth saving people and the future. Fallout 1-2 wanted to be about saving your people from death of an outside agency. For me, even with it, I still enjoyed the game and all the expansions(though Point Lookout was just some weird way of making the Dunwich building something more).

How about the fact that there's a metric fuckton of food just lying around the wasteland that somehow hasn't been scavenged and is still edible despite no refrigeration?

At that point the levels are fatal to you. Never drink the water thats too clean in the wasteland.

Despite how much I enjoy the game, the whole time line deal falls apart once you walk into the first corner store and see three rad roaches sitting around on the floor, with a bunch of Cram and snack cakes on the shelves and they attack you rather then scrounge the food.

not at the time of the game. but perhaps it had been that high just after the war. lack of bacteria could explain some things, like the lingering raider decorations, and that the only sickness that seems to be left is from the radiation.

People can get sicknesses from other individuals, not just their surroundings and animals. As for the high radiation levels, I'm not seeing it. Maybe if the city was hit with groundburst after groundburst, but it doesn't show that level of damage.
Yeah but like I said there's absurd and then there's *absurd*.
Giant insects. Power armor. The ability to make a man's side explode by shooting him in the eyes. Chinese occupied San Francisco. A city built on casinos in a world where travel is dangerous. Operational robots. There is alot of crazy stuff.

Steel wrote:I actually liked losing all my stuff in The Pitt in a sense. When I was going through the steel mill with just a .38 and every shot counted it actually felt like a 'survive in the wasteland' type deal rather than perpetual gooification with each plasma gun shot. Of course they kind of screw it up by dumping an assault rifle on you straight away when you enter the mill, but its still kind of there.
Yeah, I liked snooping around the steel mill too for pretty much the same reasons, but after you're done with the place everything goes silly again. The slaves and guards talk about the steel mill assignment like a suicide mission, and how no slave sent there ever returns, etc. Then you go in, and come back not only alive but with an assload of steel ingots, pretty much proving to be more capable than the rest of the Pitt's population combined. Now when a slave shows that sort of ability, what do you do? Shoot him on the spot to be on the safe side? Toss him into a cell until you can figure out what to do with him? Tell other guards to keep an eye on him? At least take away the guns he found in the steel mill? No, none of that. Just give him a ton of equipment, including a laser shotgun, silenced assault rifle and a suit of fucking power armour, and tell him to be on his way. What's he gonna do, escape? Engineer a revolt? Just generally shoot up the place? Pssh, I foresee no trouble whatsoever.
