As the man said...

Screw you!

Just because not all of us have a super fast connection doesn't mean we don't like surfing the net....why don#'t we swap connections and see how you enjoy at being stuck at 4k...hm?
Before I upgraded to broadband, I was using a 14.4 modem...

Any surfing I did was excruciating, downloads took hours or days and e-mail took a lot of time also.

It wasn't too bad for SSH, but...

14.4...eugh...

Dial up isn't like dusting crops boy...it's quite painful the speeds it goes.

No reason to bash those of us who can't afford the so much a month however.

Sorry, I forget that everyone doesn't need the broadband connection, or has the patientce to make it pay for itself. Thanks to the high-speed connection, I pull in about $15 a month from surveys and $25-30 with my porn server...which leaves me just about breaking even.

That said, it takes a reasonable amount of time to run the server and do the surveys.

What service you use?
Sympatico High-Speed. I was thinking of going to High-Speed Ultra (3Mbps download, 640kbps upload) if I was going to self-host my BBS on my own private server, but then I discovered the "no HTTP servers" clause in their TOS.

So if my DSL is connected at 10,000,000 bps, what does that mean?

And why does the Internet cease to load for a minute or two every so often?

That would imply you have a 10 Mbps connection, which is faster than any DSL connection I've ever heard of. Are you sure about that number?

You're probably using Windows PPPoE software to access your provider.

I'm almost positive that ADSL and SDSL don't go that high.

Hemlock, are you sure that's not your network card connecting to the DSL model @ 10Mbit/sec?

Thats what we're gonna get, Sympatico.

Scrap the extra phone line, get High-Speed, scrap dail-up.

Actually costs less than staying with dail-up and an extra phone line.

I'm getting anywhere from about 1.2-1.5Mbps download and ~180kbps upload on my cable modem. I don't think there's any bandwidth limit considering that I once downloaded over 10 CDR's worth of porn and music in a single month. And all this for the price of 45 bucks a month.

Keep in mind that I live in a neighbourhood filled mostly with senior citizens and a few young couples so I doubt there's many people with any form of high speed internet access in my area. Meaning that I get all the bandwidth to myself. You'll excuse me now as I go finish downloading "Country Comfort"... :D
