Don't bother. I did body building for a while in my sophomore year in HS and I did nothing out of the ordinary except weight train. By semester end I was able to max 310 lbs on bench, leg pressed well over 500 (that really hurt though after I showed off... don't show off...), incline/decline 250, ect, ect... I didn't even diet (ate my normal fatty diet).

A good group of friends and a good trainer really helps though. But do not do anabolic steroids... unless you want to say goodbye to your little friend down there... on top of other very crappy side affects (wouldn't even recommend Kreatin (SP)... did nothing for my friends)

Dont' bother with the steroids, not worth it. I did weight lifting during my sophomore year in HS and I did nothing more but lift weights (didn't change diet, take vitamins, nothing) and by semesters end I was able to bench 310 lbs, incline/decline 250, leg press over 500 (though showing off such really hurt... ontop of the inability to really walk...), and ect. ect. Basically, you don't need to do anything special. Just stick with a good lifting routine and you'll develop. Maybe get a group of friends to lift with you, it does help to have a healthy dose of competition.

They're in no way worth the side effects.

I don't think an effective body building routine can be performed effectively in the early years of high school. Your own body is not finished developing.

In high school, I was more of an ectomorph, but now I am a mesomorph.

The risks of steroids are far greater than the rewards. Don't do it. Your liver, kidneys and heart will thank you for it.

... other than a few more pounds and faster growing facial hair I basically havn't changed too much from HS... it all depends on the person I suppose (and I won't even attempt to sound like I know what I'm saying when you talk about ectomorph and stuff).

All around, don't bother with any of the body building drugs (steroids, kreatin (SP), ect.) If your going just trying for that fast muscle look, then its best just to stick with light wieghts (or none) and lots of repetition. If your truly going to strength, then its better just to follow a proper lifting schedule, perhaps the whole diet thing, and no drugs.

What are you going for with your wieght training? Strength, look, or both?

Trust me, it's a bad idea. In addition to all the other bad stuff everyone else has listed here, it'll make your muscles way more injury prone later in life.
Don't hate; appreciate!

Creatine, Lars, is not a body building drug. It simply helps the muscle tissues retain water, thereby allowing the user to squeeze in one or two extra reps before burn out.

I have read lots of research on creatine and have yet to see one negative side effect besides water retention.

Dude, are you a pro athlete? Do you have the potential to earn yourself a multi-million dollar contract? If not, then give it up, and don't do it. In the end, you could be fucking yourself more than you know.

Besides, you'll probably get more sense of accomplishment for anything you do if you do it naturally. Don't fuck around with the 'roids, boy.

How about its a waste of money except for the most elite of atheletes. Thats not a side effect against your body, but a good way to waste money.

I really recommend you do not try steroids. You dont want to hurt yourself and pay for it later in life.

Dude, although I have no basis for comparison, I have noticed same great improvements while taking creatine. It's not a drug! It's a supplement! One cannot compare creatine with steroids! One is a growth horomone while the other is a naturally occuring substance. Creatine is produced by the brain. Steroids are TOTALLY synthetic.

The long term effects of creatine have not been studied yet. It has not been on the market long enough. The research, however, that has been documented is very positive.

Don't fucking do it.

But then, why weight train/body build for no purpose? I never understood that.

Okay, I didn't mention this before, but also part of the reason for my training is that I have actually done some modeling in the past. And no, irish, I don't have the potential to make millions of dollars. I train because it gives me focus and direction. I enjoy it. I also love competing in Tae Kwon Do, so my training also helps with that.

I am taking creatine now, and I drink protein. Along with my diet, that's it.

If your doing it for focus and direction and because you enjoy it, what you you hope to gain by givin into a dangerous drug that will at the least shrink your balls down to almost nothing?

I went to school with this kid who takes steroids. We got in a fight once, he punched me in the face and driven his knuckle almost down to his wrist. In that upcoming football season, he broke his leg. Now I've seen him lately and his arms are about as wide as my fucking head. Steroids weaken your bones. At least, I think they do. Besides, it's cheating. Cheaters are shitheads. Are you a shithead? Seriously, that kid is way too fucking muscular for his own good.

Superman wrote:Okay folks, I need some people to weigh in here. I have been an amateur body builder for a little while now. I eat the specialized diets, go the gym about 4 times per week, take supplements, etc. I don't know if there are any fellow lifters in here, but I am considering starting an anabolic steroid regimen.

Since we are all basically anonymous in here, I was wondering what you people think. I am aware of the potential side effects and I am aware of the benefits.

Opinions????

Thanks people.
I say nay. I studied this stuff in PDHPE, it's just not good.

Anecdotal, but I think you know that.

I did not compare them. I said creatine is a waste of money for most people. As for being a supplement, be careful many supplements meet the traditional criteria for being classified as a drug.

I have to agree with the group... dont do it. such things are for the stupids.

on another note related to training... Ive been considering getting a BowFlex rig so I can do some training at home without having a whole bunch of weights lying around, and a system that can be easily stowed or moved when I change residence. anybody have any experience with them? any opinions in general?

i never understood why people would get these fancy machines for loads of money.
you can acomplish the same by going running outside (in case it´s raining get a rope and jump) , pushups, situps, pullups and one pair of weights.

well, it all depends on what you're tryin to accomplish with the training. running is an aerobic excercise... good for cardio & running endurance, but without weight training will turn you into a stick & is absolute murder on the joints, hip bone & spinal column from the repeated impacts if you dont run properly -- ie like most joggers, who typically let their heels impact ground. jumprope is the same, but adds a little in that it enhaces motor skills.

pushups, situps & pullups are all well & good for basic anaerobic, but get limited very quickly as you get used to a single resistance in each excercise (although you can add weights to the excercises to change it up). Ditto for the single pair of weights.

I was looking to mainly get in far better shape in both aero and anaero. for the aero, I was gonna get back into cycling (effectively no joint stress) with some blading on the side. for the anaero, weight training on the Bowflex (maybe starting off at the comm. ctr.).

I know that creatine isn't a drug, and its Larz

I suppose the whole 'all natural' method of body building is just my opinion on the subject. If you want tone then do light or no wieghts with lots of repetition (it takes forever to get tone doing normal weight lifting for strength... I only got tone in my arms due to the fact that I played a lot of guitar)

Whats your normal routine?
