Clearly, by the dictates of prosperity theology, God is in the process of punishing the wicked right now!

"The 4th Earl of Hereford led the fight on the bridge, but he and his men were caught in the arrow fire. Then one of de Harclay's pikemen, concealed beneath the bridge, thrust upwards between the planks and skewered the Earl of Hereford through the anus, twisting the head of the iron pike into his intestines. His dying screams turned the advance into a panic."'

Eccleastical architecture is an interest of mine, as the style of the church reflects the zeitgeist of the particular religion the church is a part of. You go into a Catholic cathedral and it conveys to the visitor the Majesty of Heaven. Go into a Greek Orthodox Church and you get an impression of the Divine Mystery. Places like this, however, give off only one impression: self-glorification. It's not about god, nor the sacred or the mysterious, it's all about the pastor.
As for what the building could be used for, perhaps it could be converted into a solar farm...?

Oil an emergency?! It's about time, Brigadier, that the leaders of this planet of yours realised that to remain dependent upon a mineral slime simply doesn't make sense.

That is actually a very good point, Cathedrals of the past have a sense to them that indeed makes you feel "spiritual" Even If I no longer fully agree with the idea, I can appreciate the grander and the architectural triumph of old Catholic or Greek Cathedrals.Patrick Degan wrote:Eccleastical architecture is an interest of mine, as the style of the church reflects the zeitgeist of the particular religion the church is a part of. Looking at Modern "MegaChurches" and especially the crystal Cathedral, all I feel is an empty sense of self importance about the people, not to any higher purpose.
Praying is another way of doing nothing helpful

Classic cathedral are as much an excercise in an intimate knowledge of human reactions and psychology and they are architectural wonders: the effect is that they impress most people with a sense of awe that makes them automatically start speaking in a hushed voice, remove the hats and somehow make the priests' instructions and requests carry with extra authority and influence. They are very cleverly constructed in all aspects, not just the outer facade.Crossroads Inc. wrote: That is actually a very good point, Cathedrals of the past have a sense to them that indeed makes you feel "spiritual" Even If I no longer fully agree with the idea, I can appreciate the grander and the architectural triumph of old Catholic or Greek Cathedrals.
The crystal cathedral, on the other hand...it's like an office block. It's architecturally interesting, but has little grandeur.

It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn't feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.

I also find that traditional churches and cathedrals have an aura of permanence about them, while this join has more of an aura of extravagance. I assume that it's part of that "Jesus wants you to be rich" thing.
Re: Megachurch files for bankruptcy
If you go to a classical church or cathedral, youÄll note thick columns, walls built out of solid stone. Go to a megachurch and you get faux marble, faux stone and a general outlook that looks more like a megamall than a temple.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood
