I was like, ten when I played it and barely had any exposure to PC games at the time? :P

Alright, then, I guess I can see that. It's just - man, even playing it back then I threw up in my mouth a little. I guess I should've throw out Spear Of Destiny, too. Man, I remember fragging Natsees and watching them explode into goo and thinking it was the most awesomest thing evar. God that was forever ago....I feel like I was maybe...10? 12 tops? Nope...1992, I was 14. Jeez.

And GR:

It is pitch black, you are likely to be eaten by a Grue ;) (Good one)

Do any of you guys remember Dream Zone? GOD that was a weird Adventure game. I still don't know what the crap that thing was about. I just remember pig-cops and...toilets, and strange, ultra-bright day glow colors on everything. Well played, Naughty Dog (JAM)

Well I definitely don't, I had Starflight on....either the ZX Spectrum (unlikely), or the Atari ST. :)

Since Stark mentioned Eye of the Beholder, who remembers Dungeon Master, its sequel/glorified expansion pack Chaos Strikes Back, and the sci fi themed game called Captive. All out on the Atari ST, and some of them I'm sure were on the Amiga and PC.

Other games I remember from way back were the original Railroad Tycoon and Transport Tycoon. The strange thing about Transport Tycoon was the initial release used real vehicle names like the Class 47 Diesel loco, the Sud-Aviation Caravelle airline etc, a later release, possibly a deluxe one used made up names, I don't know if there were possible copyright issues there.

Bah! Dirty console gamers, all the good games we're on PC!!!

Steel panthers. Ahhh.... the days of digital glory. My finnish defenders took the best those eevil nazis could throw at them and my brave StuG crew dodged gazillion shells from a king tiger to win the day.

Fallout 1 & 2. I have many fond memories of these and are to me the games that earned the title of computer roleplaying game.

Lucas adventure games. Enough said. I own all of them. Not for PC though, my original Maniac Mansion is for C64.

Star Control II. "This post has been brought to you by the Frungy league, the most exciting sport in the universe!!!"

XCOM. Yeah that's right martians, you tried and failed in ´99. You just dare try again. Gunhead and his 8 braves will kick your martian ass all over the solar system if you show your faces on here again. That's right, I'm talking to you sectoid boy. You just go back to your alien porn before I go and get Mr. Laser rifle from the closet.

I remember playing Atari 7800 games on the actual console. But not much else about it.

And the initial X-Com games were just developments of Laser Squad which was in itself a development of Rebelstar and before that Rebelstar Raiders which was on the old 48k Spectrum. :)

Dog, I have played dungeon master for many many many many hours. I can't explain why, it was a pile of crap...but, like Zodkins said...limited exposure and all. LONG LIVE BORIS

I can't tell you how many hours I lost on Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt. Duck Hunt was kind of a one-trick pony, but it was a fun change of pace thanks to the light gun. SMB was just a flat-out great game. Took me forever to figure out how to do the long jump in 8-1, though.

Duke Nukem 3d, though it's not so much nostalgia for the game itself (I played it recently; it hasn't aged well) as nostalgia for co-op and deathmatch with my friends.

Perhaps, I haven't played any of the Breach games, and Laser Squad is far older, and was pretty decent in its time, at least on the 8 bit computers. I know the relaunched Laser Squad Nemesis didn't exactly set the world alight.

Why? I mean...Well, why? I don't think I ever beat it...maybe I did, I dunno. But I do remember getting to at least the purple worm place before running out of torches/food/water

Pure nostalgia here showing my age;

First ever computer game I played was Space Invaders II as a table arcade at the local pizzeria which looked like this:
Image
That blew me away and life would never really be the same.

Arcades nostalgia
Spyhunter (sweet music)
Karate champ (two sticks, no buttons, this is the first successful fight arcade)
Marble madness (a trackball, like a reversed mouse, and you had to beat it hard get speed enough to succeed)
Operation wolf (UZI with force feedback, I got a blister on my trigger finger from this one)
Double Dragon II (at the last stage if you hit a goon the right way the game would freeze and you could ask the manager for the coin back)

C64
Ultima IV (first RPG with the concept of time, the npcs going to bed at night etc, I used to have that coin from IV with me for two years at least)
Ghost and goblins (had a crack with a cheat code for extra lives, still was a nightmare to finish)
Pool of radiance (first D&D game, loved it)
Elite (I still start to tilt my head to the left when I hear "The Blue Danube Waltz")
Delta (the graphics, the music, I would turn it on and have it running on the stereo)

Amiga
Speedball (we had tournaments where we would come together 4-12 kids with a board etc)
Civilization (I had played the boardgame, so this was such a treat, it was the first game I purchased and not just copied)
Monkey island (me and my brother played this together, taking turns at the helm)
Syndicate (last game for me on the amiga and such a lovely game it was)

Other
xconq for the X Window System (used to go to the local university and play with the big boys, I was still in high school so that was a big deal, we even played foreigners)

Very well.

Arcade
Exciting Hour (only game I ran into that had the most dangerous opponent halfway through the game)
Double Dragon (I spent several fortunes on that and Exciting Hour during my summer holidays in Italy)
Green Beret
Ghost'n'Goblins (same deal for Holland for those two)

CBM64
Maniac Mansion
Zac McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders
Gunship
Pirates! (shame on you lot)
F-19 Stealth Fighter ('Hey, thanks for taking the last of the only weapon I can successfully finish the mission with!' 'Blimey. This carrier it taller than I expected.')
Elite
the various 'Games' games (Winter, Summer, California, World -cause of death for an uncounted number of joysticks)
the GoldBox games
Raid over Moscow-the only game where you'd have a lot more fun trying to park in the opening sequence hangar than doing the actual mission
The Last Ninja

Amiga
Hired Guns
Dogs of War
Millenium 2.2 and Deuteros
Wings of Fury

PC
Countdown to Doomsday/Matrix Cubed
Crusader:No Remorse/No Regret
Wing Commander 1,2 & mission disks
Planet's Edge
Star Trek 25th Anniversary

The old Star Wars cockpit-arcade game with vector graphics was fantastic. I can't believe I forgot about that one.

If it's the same one I remember the only thing it had going for it was it was Star Wars. It essentially was pretty frustrating beyond that thanks to way the controls worked.
Wars games didn't come into their own until Dark Forces or X-Wing (whichever happened first).

Did your table arcades have the same fault as ours?

I remember guys 'banging' the slot area and coin eject button quite hard, and if done right it would give free credits. :)

Of course. But I never used it myself, I was too scared of the owner.
Now lots of old arcades had hardware faults like that, I remember the bad game where you where Bruce Lee fighting your way up a mansion. If you pressed the slot as you put in the coin you would get 100 credits. First Virtua Fighter I played had a fault where the whole machine would go to a boot command if you tilted it. Something which some jackasses of course did.

Ah, I remember that! I had an uncle-in-law who'd let me play when we visited.

Not to nitpick, but is that a typo? I mean the game came out not even a year ago (it'll be a year next week). It hasn't even had a price drop yet.
