Hmm, I'm experiencing a major slowdown, even though I'm posting a one-liner. :?

Have a very nice day.

How major? Could you describe it more fully?

Took me about 30 seconds to log on when I pestered the test board earlier today. There wasn't any other significant activity on the test board, either.

FYI

The server provider is reconfiguring it's routers and its network at present, mainly to increase performance. It's also working on providing enhanced security to network attacks.

Hopefully impact on performance will be kept to a minimum.

No delays, no problems with cookies, no Supermod problems, and it handled Serches and Sorts like a pro. Not one delay, not one white screen. If the test is still going tomorrow I'll give it another going over and see how consistant it is over a prolonged period.

Seems fine, but I'll give it a proper run through with graphics and heavy multiple window search and sorts tomorrow.

Anyone else find it ironic that though the test board has been smooth for the past 1/2 hour, the main board slowed to a crawl?

Hey, I tried posting a post with the bandwidth hogging text of:

"THIS IS"

A minute ago. I'm still waiting for it to go through.

one post took bout two minuites to go through
page load times out to 30-40 seconds.

OK, What. The. Fuck. just happened? Last night everything was speeding along and not a problem. Today, upto a minute and a half to load a page! Upto Two minutes to post! Searches taking seconds to finish, sorts are fine though. :?

No white screens and no double posts, No error messages and no problems with moderator powers (deletions, editing, Ip traces), other than the time delay. Was I just lucky last night, or is this a consequence of the upgrades MJ mentioned?

ADDENDUM : I haven't dared do my normal graphics tests and refreshes on the board as normal posts are taking too long to go through. I'll try again tomorrow and see if this lag has cleared up.

I don't understand, it's fine from my testing, and I tested with both Broadband and a modem connection.

I got double posted, and I can't figure out why. Response time is good, though

Most of today has been Slooow. Which is annoying after the speed of last night. I'm on Broadband in the UK, but that shouldn't be a problem (it wasn't last night). I'll try again tomorrow and see what happens.

Test forum lagged up after I posted that thread conclusively proving that Star Trek would win.

EDIT: Nuts to that. I think the test forum just went balls up.
EDIT2: Nope, never mind. But the damn thing lags up at times.

Login authentication takes 15-30 seconds but the test board responds quickly after logging in.

Darth Wong wrote:Yes, the test board is back, as I'm trying to find another server that will give us better performance. http://bbs2.stardestroyer.net or https://megatron.enetexperience.com/~admin21 if you want to check it out. Last time, we experienced some odd 30-second delays in posting during the test which I foolishly chalked up to the mass deletions and other tests people were doing, but which turned out to be typical of that host. This time, please let me know how the torture test goes and we'll have to flag any extended posting delays (a few seconds is OK, 30 seconds is not).

As always, be careful you don't confuse the test board with the real one. Please note that the title in your web browser's titlebar should say "SD.Net TEST BBS" instead of "StarDestroyer.Net BBS", so this (in conjunction with the URL) should help you differentiate between the two.
Woo!
Can I have mod powers on the test board? Please? :D

Something on the test board (and this one too): when I press my back button, the previous page does not refresh itself.

Well I've been making and deleting posts for the last 10 minutes and ti's been fine. However 10 minutes is hardly a rigorous test period.

It's the weekend, what we need is everyone (or a large number of us) to agree a time (say 21:00 Gmt - 16:00 EST - 14:00 PST) and get us to spend an hour posting under the conditions the test board would have to undergo normally. I'll do some intensive testing just now, but the daily post and play of Forum life needs to be properly simulated.

ADDENDUM : If you see a post from me marked "[test] number followed by Smiley description", then don't open it if you have a slow connection. I'm testing refresh rates with Graphics that have slowed down the previous test board before and want to see how the future board copes.
