I have to say that although the Heresy is not turning out as I pictured it I have very few gripes about how it's unfolding. The Heresy seems infinitely more rationally motivated in the HH series than it previously did. The actions of Horus and the Traitor Primarchs seem less like arbitrary betrayal for greed and more like the rational end products of complex human interactions. I find that far more compelling than the traditional "black and white" that GW tends to paint its characters with morally in the codices and even a lot of BL fiction.

With the exception of the horrible fall of Horus and the Alpha Legion I have generally been happy about how the Heresy has turned out. The hard core secularism took me by surprise and the ignorance of Chaos by the Primarchs was also surprising, but they do make sense.
As for the Council of Nikea, while the Librarians were disbanded and use of psychic powers forbidden Rune-Priests aren't Librarians. Yes that's a technicality, but considering that Magnus thinks the ban won't last it's not inconsistent with what we've read. I was particularly happy with Thousand Sons and Prospero Burns.

The Excellent Prismatic Spray. For when you absolutely, positively must kill a motherfucker. Accept no substitutions. Contact a magician of the later Aeons for details. Some conditions may apply.

In light of what we know from the series so far and especially with First Heretic can it be argued that on some level Lorgar is the father of the Imperial Cult AND the Chaos Space Marines/Cults of Chaos? In a twisted way he sowed the seeds for the Imperial Cult that venerated the Emperor as a god as well as giving the pantheon of the Chaos gods its foundations in the 31st millennium and in fact many Chaos Space Marines still follow what he was teaching even in the current 41st millennium.
Wherever you go, there you are.

Re: Is the Heresy how you pictured it? (40K)
I would say so since he is the author of the Lectitio Divinitatus which is the primary document of worship concerning the early Imperial Cult. Since its also still in use by the current ecclesiarchy im interested as to how the authorship was spun by the post Heresy ecclesiarchy in the birth of the current Imperium, since it can hardly have still been atributed to a guy whos just rebelled against the Emperor.
Indeed we also know that the chaplains of the Word Bearers have been instrumental in spreading the various lodges and nacent cults within the other rebel legions via secondment. How much of this is Lorgar and how much Kor Phearon Im not sure but its probably a matter of six of one and half a dozen of the other.
One thing not in doubt is Lorgars authorship of The Book of Lorgar ;p Since this is also used by various legions during and post Heresy both for worship and as a how too manual for summonings etc, then yes I agree you could most definately make a good arguement for Lorgar being incredibly instrumental in the formation of both the Imperial Cult and the worship of the Chaos Gods by marines.
However it should also be noted that this is not true of all the Chaos Legions as the Thousand Sons and also the World Eaters fell to their respective powers by pretty much fiat by nature. Also the Night Lords and Alpha Legion as Im not sure whether they truely worship Chaos or not (obviously some do , but I mean as a whole).
