The minimum requirement is "accepting of atheists", not necessarily "atheist".
From the responses Ive seen I would take it not to be the case. I personally dont think marriages that mix religions will work well, but thats just my opinion.
There are lots of them out there. I don't know how many of them fail to work out, but if you haven't hashed all that stuff out with your girlfriend
before getting married, you're getting married too damned early.
So, I would tink a non religious person with a religous person would be even more uncompatible.
It depends on whether the religious person is capable of accepting that his or her religion is not absolute (this also applies to interfaith couples). My wife and I both agreed before we got married that our kids would be exposed to both sides. Rebecca would take them to Sunday school, and I would educate them about what I saw as the philosophical and scientific flaws of Christianity. As human beings rather than chattel, they have the right to choose on their own, so we would simply give them both sides and let them find their own way. Obviously, this approach only works with an open-minded Christian.
Mixed Marriages do work...

Hmm, just one case, might be an anomoly but who knows. My wife and her family are devout Catholics. I am a ardent atheist. It works because I don't bring the subject up with them and they know better than the bring it up with me.

I wholeheartedly agree....problem with my ex-wife was that I had explained my viewpoints to her, and she insisted that she was fine with them. After we got married, it turned out to be quite the opposite. I saw signs of this before we got married, but ignored them, because she insisted otherwise...

Okay, that photo makes me think of one thing, and one thing only. Why in god's name didn't someone think that all Luke had to do was Force-twiddle those buttons and switches on Vader's respirator. Honestly. They're right on his CHEST.
Luke: What happens if I force-push all those buttons at once...?
Vader: *gasp*...Aggh! Don't...DO that!

That's the first things kids like to try and do when I wear that costume is try and push all the buttons on my belt boxes and chest piece...I really need to redesign it and set up some circuitry to sounds or something.

Who says they're for his repirator? They could be for non-essential items such as entertainment, communications, or (okay, that might be essential for some).

I can see Vader's tailor now:
"And with this armor, you won't really get out much, so this button is your 'wank me off' button, this is your porno-display unit activator, this is the button you press when you need your nurse..."

To make a startling display of originality and return to the original subject; no, I have never found it particularly lonely being an Atheist at all, and I hardly bother to disguise my views.
-But then again, I live in britain, which is not known for it's religious bent. I am somewhat disturbed to find that it would be an issue in the US and possibly Canada.

I say "Big Friggin' Deal". I don't push my athieism on people. What ever happened to "judge not others"?.
I'd rather be a free-thinking athiest than a thought-controlled religouser.
