They probably had to break something to fit Cortana's power of love visions into his helmet, y'know.

My first thought when I saw the trailer was the MC was getting eaten by unicron.

Am I alone in thinking that would be the most EPIC crossover, ever? With Optimus the Pelican gunship at Master Chief's side, and Grimlock the Grizzly tank as comic relief?

Start of game, wake out of cryosleep to your ship exploding?

WELCOME TO THE PLOT OF HALO 1!

Shite, I hadn't thought of that. My expectations just got lower. There's probably another Installation to land on as well.

I'll give you three guesses, and the first two don't count.

And it's not just Halo1; it's Halo1 minus EVERY OTHER CHARACTER. Chief wanders around more bland scenery being talked at by a pair of tits... with no-one else around to provide context or motivation. Sounds thrilling!

So it's Shadow of the Colossus with guns?

It works for Metroid. As long as there's not too much talking, that is.

Also, looking again, the thrusters seem to be more of an EVA feature than a full jetpack. They fold right back into the back between the shoulders, and only fire in short bursts to move in Zero G. Not something he really had that much use for in Halo 3 IIRC.

In either case, it's too early to be saying it's gonna be good or bad, but I doubt the final product will change many people's mind about the series either way.

Only with boring boss fights.

Oh hey, just like Metroid!

Them's fightin' words, buster.
I do have hopes for Halo 4...I mean, Microsoft wouldn't be dumb enough to allow a lackluster entry in their biggest XBox cash cow, would they?

Erm... Everything Halo 3 and on has been a lackluster entry in their biggest XBox cash cow, and even the first 2 weren't great.

Nonsense. Halo 3 and Reach were the best of the series. Finally doing away with bullshit like repetitive level design and guns ripped straight from Quake.

can we agree 2 was the worst?

EDIT: except playing as alien commando guy, that was cool

Halo 2 *was* the worst of the series. The levels got smaller and MORE repetitive, the weapon balance was destroyed, the story took off into irrelevant crap about the Forerunner and Flood etc. Even Bungie itself admitted Halo 2 was a total disappointment.

Yet i'd still bet on it over Halo 4.

EDIT: All things being said yes, the Arbiter and his levels were honestly the best part of the game.

Good setup for a Die Hard reference, though.

What I wouldn't give for a game centered around the Arbiter, the Shipmaster and the Elites.

A Halo game with compelling characters with real motivations.

Agreed. Wasn't Peter Jackson's Halo project supposed to deal with the Elites?

Maybe it's just me, but story wise I think Halo 2 was one of the better games in the series. It fleshed out our enemies more than just about any other title. Then again maybe I'm wierd in that I like to know more about my enemies than that they're mostly mooks trying to kill me for generic reason X.

I'll agree that the Arbiter levels were the best in Halo 2.

Everyone except the legions of screaming fanboys liked the Arbiter sections of Halo 2. Not being yelled at by some invisible mother-surrogate and saying nothing while things happen to you? Actually doing things to drive the plot?

Too much for the average Halo fan.

Am I the only one whose Halo interest went like to 11 in 1,
9 in 2,
3 or 4 in 3
and, like 1 for Reach (Which I could only stomach for literally 15 minutes)
(and maybe....6 for ODST)

Am I alone...Forever alone?

Anyway - I think I liked Halo when it was just "Yo, super soldier killin' aliens because they don't like us." and I was even okay when it turned out that they are religious zealots who think humans are the devil incarnate (cool motivation, in fact) Then there was the flood....Alright, I can dig that, I guess. Sort of a common enemy, but we're starting to dilute the raw coolness of the first part of the game

Moving on to Halo 2 giant plant...I'm done.

Halo 3 had...what again? Finish the fight, right? something about cortana talking about love songs? I don't remember; and that is sad.

Halo 3 ODST had some interesting stuff in it I guess, but it was more Halo 3. what I remember about it? Smoky jazz music. (Oh, and the best buzz trailer of all time - HOY MEETS BOY!)

And Reach was....you know...I guess some stuff where the covenant did some things and blew stuff up looking for a thing that would let them be more evil; who knows? I read the book so whatever.

Reach had terrible storytelling (Covenant on Reach? Lets respond the way LAPD responds to a domestic disturbance, no need to ready the planet for imminent invasion or anything!) but is much more modern mechanically than 3 or ODST. It hsould get points for finally actually giving MC some actual super powers.

ODST could have been more interesting if there was more effort put into making you not a Master Chief analogue.

Make encountering elites a genuinely worrying event, and have a greater reliance on nor playing like a Halo game. When it was first announced people were plugging it as "GRAW in Halo" but it ended up being more Halo with a different silent stoic protagonist.

Hard to make encountering Elites in ODST a worrying event when Spoiler
the only Elites you see in the game are dead.
