There aren't that many examples of good episodes from the first season. I kinda like it simply because it was the first episode of the show. It's not as good as 'The Cage' or 'Where No Man Has Gone Before' was for TOS, or 'Emissary' was for DS9.

Hopefully they are doing the EFX masters in 4K instead of HDTV; for the next video format...

I should think they'd be scanning the actual film at 4K; that's pretty much industry standard these days. The actual restoration will probably only be done at 1080p for practical reasons, but it should be a comparatively simple matter to go back to it in the future and do it at 4K resolution.

I wonder if they will go as far as digitally adding the dorsal surfaces of the saucer and those of the upper engineering hull and parts of the pylons and engines that would be visible (at least from some angles) from the conference room windows and shuttle bays, respectively.

I really, really doubt that. That would entail a lot of work, especially as those windows were usually not blue-screen elements. There's a line in the TNG TM where one of the authors notes that scripts would specifically be rewritten to have the ship cruising at impulse so that they didn't have to edit in the star-streak effect on the windows.

That's too bad. I think there was an existing shot or two from one of the secondary shuttle bays showing one of the engines, but I could be mis-remembering. Imagine how it would look to see the view of the saucer curving away as the crew stands near the conference room windows, looking outward.

If it were practical, I'd like to see the curve of the hull/saucer reflected in the shuttle bay openings. They are all perfectly vertical from the inside, which does not match the exterior. This is quite obvious just about anytime you see an open shuttle bay, and especially so when in "BOBW Pt 2" when Data and Worf leave the main shuttle bay. You can clearly see out of the shuttle windows on the port side, where Worf is sitting. As the shuttle leaves, you see the vertical edge of the opening of the bay, when instead it should be curved. Additionally, it would be nice if they could do a digital set extension and raise the height/width of the shuttle bay doors. There is at least one time when you see a shuttle departing and it barely clears the opening! Heck, I'd like to the the main shuttle bay sets themselves simply increased.

Ah well, I can dream.

You can dream about wasting money for literally no reason? Any money that could be spent on stuff like that could be way better spent on cleaning up more episodes, or episodes faster.

That looks more like an Excelsior-class sitting off their port stern quarter.

Yeah, that could be it. The floors of the secondary shuttle bays themselves are slightly higher than the top of the engine nacelles and this is a downward looking shot. The forward part of the Enterprise's own port engine might be visible from that angle if they thought about putting it in.

Yes, from that episode, it's the Repulse. I just looked at it on Netflix. It's at the very beginning.
