At the very least, relocating the ammo & autoloader to the turret rear (like le clerc) would give the crew a better chance or survival right? One of the canceled russian prototypes had something like that I think.

Also, since Iraq had a proto-nuclear program at the time, what were their chances of making DU APFSDS rounds for their T-72? Or even non-depleted uranium prior to 2003?

Does non-depleted uranium have the same physical properties as DU does? Since we use DU in the Abrams' armor & "silver bullet" rounds. I know there's likely radiation hazards, though a tinpot like Saddam, doesn't care about the safety of his men.

Probably the only tank armor that can stand against a DU APFSDS is DU armor right? Or could some special composite withstand it? (Of course, there's tons of classified research on armor & antiarmor going on all the time) Although a vehicle specializing in urban combat would probably be more useful now than a 'classic' tank would be. (A several meter long barrel makes fighting in narrow streets troublesome) The russians tested a tank chassis w/ a pair of 30mm guns & a bunch of other lethal goodies which were pretty versatile. (BMPT) There was a video of it on Youtube showing what it could do 8)
