This should sum it up. Additional parts that I left out is her insistence on calling her detractors either misogynists or 'talifans', in her blog she likens the Jedis to Nazis and anyone who likes Jedis as Neo-Nazis.

Yeah, I really do think that of all the major directors alive today other than Lucas himself, the one who is best suited to continuing Star Wars (with the possible exception of Spielberg) is probably Abrams.

I'd prefer that he consider a new screenwriter though. Star Trek's plot was not its strong point.

Only these two can reinvent the franchise, starting with 'that' holiday special.

He has no real track record yet, but Rupert Wyatt showed he can make an enjoyable movie that uses motion capture acting very well. Getting some CG aliens that don't feel like cartoons might be nice.

However, I'd love to see Fincher in that sandbox. He's gotten very good at blending FX to fit the story and not tell it.

i expect lucasfilm to be much like warner bros with 'looney tunes'. Bugs bunny never did any commercial endorsements until Mel Blanc (voice) died, then it was open slather for a number of years.

agree, i don't mind his films, but they tend to be diametrically opposed to star wars.

Tarantino is definitely a good filmmaker, but his style would not fit this fiction at all, he is definitely all about the homages to film history and the long, drawn-out dialogue (which I like, I swear the conversation scenes in most Tarantino films are more exciting than most action sequences).

I love Christopher Nolan, but I couldn't imagine him doing Star Wars either.

Before Avatar I probably would have said Cameron is a good choice, the guy made one of the best sci-fi films ever, Aliens. Maybe if Cameron was just the director I'd be cool with it, as long as he stays the holy hell away from the script.

Someone earlier said David Fincher, and I think that's an interesting choice. He's really only made one dud to my best recollection (goddamn Benjamin Button), but that is nowhere near enough to tarnish the greatness of Se7en, Fight Club, and The Social Network. Fincher's upcoming American version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo also looks promising, especially considering the excellent novel it was based on and the Swedish film version which has been out for a while. I'd kind of like to see what he would do with the material.

I realize I'm just parroting right now but I honestly can't imagine anyone who would really suit the material well. How about an off-the-wall one? Terry Gilliam, anyone? haha just kidding. (Anyone that hasn't seen his masterpiece, Brazil definitely needs to see it, though)

Few questions:

1) Why Johnny Depp for the Sith?

2) What stories is there to explore after Star Wars The Clone Wars is done? Knights of the Old Republic? Galen Marek's story? Between ANH and ROTJ? Thrawn trilogy? The Yuuzhan Vong War? Dark Empire (Oh, not Palpatine again)? Legacy Era? (Does the last one even considered good?)

3) Who will play the main characters of the original trilogy for anything set after the Return of the Jedi? The original actors are too old for this now. Who would play Luke Skywalker for example? What about Han Solo and his evil son Darth Caedus?

4) How could anyone adapt any Expanded Universe stories, each of which could span up to TWENTY books?

5) Ultimately, which GOOD director could even be interested to make anything about Star Wars? That is, one that wouldn't turn Star Wars from a dramatic Sci-Fi flick to an brainless CGI overloaded action-adventure galore e.g. Roland Emmerich?

As far as stories are concerned, there are a few options. You could adapt an EU story, in which case I'd strongly suggest The Thrawn Trilogy or Knights of the Old Republic as they seem to be the most popular and are fairly high quality. Or you could ignore the EU altogether (as The Clone Wars has sometimes done).

For director, I stand by my choice of JJ Abrams. Abrams is a Star Wars fan as I recall, and has experience directing sci-fi action as well as well as taking over an iconic sci-fi franchise.

I am fine with the Thrawn trilogy, but I am not sure who would play the various characters. Which film star has the looks and acting experience to play a calculating and strategizing figure that is Thrawn. Also, who would do the old heroes? Who would play the roles of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organa Solo, Mara Jade, and the other heroes. The last time most of them worked together it was in 1983. Avatar grade CGI perhaps? But that would be hideously expensive and longer to produce.

Just recast them. Some hardcore fans will complain, and most people won't care. And you can cast whoever the hell you want for Jade, as no one's played her yet.

Hugo Weaving? Mark Strong?

Given that Thrawn is an older being and as an Admiral he spends his time on his bridge, in his command room etc, he doesn't have to be a younger actor. In fact, you would want someone older and more distinguished to play him convincingly.

I always thought Timothy Dalton would be great as Thrawn.

I was thinking Liam Neeson, but yes, timothy Dalton would be good too.

Of course, given you'd need blue makeup/CGI, you could have Morgan Freeman do it, which would be interesting.
