The game takes place during a strange period and the dance in particular appears to have a few time periods (ie Jabba's palace before ROTJ, the first Death Star, Bespin during the occupation, etc). Just what was Boba Fett doing with all those blackshirted Imperial chicks in a dive on Coruscant? How long had he been used as an imperial recruiting tool?

PROBABLY AGES!

The reaction to this game is baffling to me. Isn't the Star Wars brand saturated with all sorts of goofy product?

What is the canon policy about the Lego Star Wars games ? :v

The funny shit is that most of the reaction is basically 'Kinect Jedi game is not in depth hardcore totally flexible simulation of force powers SO IT SUCKS'. Kotaku literally say 'why isn't it some pipe-dream unlimited force sandbox unlike any Star Wars game ever'. Every review says 'I know it's for kids BUT ITS NOT SERIOUS ENOUGH'. How anyone can describe the songs in particular as anything but hilarious is beyond me.

Han Solo dancing threatens these people. It's bizarre. The emperor dancing is what you should worry about.

I think the dancing is hilarious and appropriate. It's not canon so it's fun, like the LEGO games, rather than insulting like the, uh, actual movies.

In any case, defending a fun game that legitimately looks fun (plus, seeing dancing Stormtroopers for real is great--it's the same reason I do like the Star Wars parodies, and a real-made intentional parody is even better quality) is a lot easier than one that's not fun. If or if not it's well liked has nothing to do with the actual fun value. It's not my fault that most of the games people rub one out to aren't the kind of game I enjoy.

I wish more games WERE fun. I don't enjoy feeling disappointed every time I pick up a beloved product. And it's not like STRAK or I or any other grumpy gus on this board is simply being contrarian or saying everything sucks. My steam library is so full of excellent games I can't even get to all of them, it's just that not a lot of them are real big name, discussed on this board, or controversial enough to enrage fanboys.

Young man, i was once in your boots
I said I was in with the the new recruits
I thought I was
Fodder for the jedi
And I'm here to say that's no lie.
I know that you might be afraid
But that's why you've got lots of thermal grenades
Sure they're useless
When Jedi are around
But hey, that's when Vader throws down.
Apparently this isn't 'great fun' it's 'worse than Holiday Special'???

Which song is that? I do like the funny parody songs. They shoulda' had Weird Al's in there.

They should have just made an entire game of this. It looks like they totally botched the actual game but that the Dance Off and Rancor modes work out really well and are a lot of fun.

It's the last verse of the YMCA ripoff. It's in the 'extended' version.

No game has ever pushed me closer to buying an XBox than this, now I know it's not some glorious dream.

Like loomer, this game is making me consider getting an XBox.

Well either that or joining the Imperial Stormtroopers...

I can't tell if you guys are being sarcastic or not. I mean, I don't want to bash the game or anything, buying it at full price is one thing, but as a system seller? REALLY?

Why not, eh? Star Wars Kinect is a game you could spend hundreds of hours having fun by yourself or even with (scarily) other people, in social situations in which Star Wars-based musical parodies are welcome (all of them, in other words).

Getting so many hours of fun and utility seems like a better reason to be a system seller than 10 hours of shooting people, 40 hours of slicing monsters with a sword or pretending my system of choice is a "multimedia entertainment centre" or whatever. I wouldn't buy a system for a week's fun but months? Years? Now you're talking.

I don't see why it's any sillier for this to be a system seller than Halo or Call of Duty. The love you take is equal to the love you make, and Star Wars Kinect loves you a lot.

I don't think any of the games you just mentioned above are system sellers. I would never buy a console for just one game. But to each their own I guess.

My process has always been to let the console come out. Let them make hardware improvements as the years go on. Let the library of games build. Wait for the first price reduction and then buy the games I wanted for cheap.

Do you believe describing what you clearly view as your extremely clever console buying habits is relevant to the mass appeal of 'doing fun shit and having a laugh'?

For almost $300 (which it will cost him), fuck no.

I don't think I'm being clever by doing that, that's just all I can afford to do.

My question is why is he assuming that'll he'll spend 100 hours playing this game.

Maybe because it sounds to him like something he'd enjoy so much he'd spend 100 hours on it.

The world may never know.

Reviews I've read claim the game is plagued with motion control issues ranging from annoying to game destroying. Can anyone comment on this? I really enjoyed "You're in the Movies" but it had many of the same issues. That and you really needed some kind of white-screen to really make it shine.

Sidenote: "You're in a Star Wars Movie" couldn't take my money fast enough.

It may be moot anyway. I had to hit my Xbox with a hammer last night to get it to load Gears 3 and it's obvious at this point my old Elite is losing it's disc drive. So I may be looking at that R2D2 bundle again this weekend. The Best Buy down the road has it for $350.

I'm curious. On average, how many 360s would you say the average owner has purchased for issues like this?

I can't find the article, but years ago Microsoft released the official numbers stating a 10% failure rate, on par with the PS3. However, some other studies later showed failure rates were much higher when the failing DVD-ROMs were taken into account. I've read some reviews claiming upwards of 55% failure rate, but I couldn't find anything to back them up.

The newest run seems to have much lower failure rates (4%) and mine is going on 4 years old. All that said, a major issue with the repair process was that Microsoft was sending out nothing but refurbs that still had the design flaw issues of the ones sent in for repair. I personally had a friend who bought Gamestops 2-year warranty and he had 5 different 360s red-ring on him. An employee finally leveled with him and told him they don't give new 360s with their warranty, just refurbs from Microsoft.

The fucked up part is, my Elite will install Rock Band 2 and 3 with no issues, but cannot play the game if it isn't installed. Same with MW3. Black Ops wouldn't install until I cleaned the disc with my Tablet wipes and made sure it was completely clean. Gear3 wouldn't even read and would instead load "A Kingdom for Keflings" when I hit play (probably because the "A" would put it first in my quickplay list). So, I finally had to pull my Halo Edition ($100 mislabeled special with controller and Wireless Headset, so basically, I got a free console) out of my computer room and install Gears on it.

Yeah, with the current run the drives seem to be the least reliable part. It probably means its on the way out, though.

And seriously, every time a fat person writes a review saying 'the kinect controls are bad' I laugh openly. Get this - to a fat person, KINECT CONTROLS ARE INHERENTLY CRAP. They want a controller. Do they want to run on their knuckles like a monkey or jump and side kick their way to victory? They do not, and they never will.

The only kinect command that gave either of us any trouble was the 'dash' in the silly adventure mode, but once you work out it wants arms back and a leg forward, it's fine. The driving and turret shooting controls seem to be designed to avoid many of the common pitfalls of hand-confusion in kinect games.

Hey Zab, I had Silent Hill at the same time which I enjoyed. I finished it on hard; I'd never play it again. I'd play Kinect Star Wars, though; but when nerds decry 'minigames' what they mean is 'how can I level up and unlock über magic spells' because they simply don't understand the attraction of minigames. :v

Can a Kinect be added to an already owned 360, or do you have to buy the whole kit and kaboodle?

It works with all 360s; the newer ones just have a special USB port for power. The sensor comes with an AC adapter for older 360s.
