Could we be seeing the Thrawn Trilogy (with some updated numbers) coming to the big screen?

Indeed. The EU has long been extremely capable of wreaking havoc on itself.

You might need some perspective in your life. Does the franchise get more raped than 'actually boba feet survived and had hilarious adventures'? When the high point of your brand is Lego games, it's too late to worry about Disney.

I'm with Stark. The franchise has been in the toilet for years. This move might actually breathe some new life into it and generate some actual enthusiasm for its future.

There's no way in hell it could be worse then the Phantom Menace anyway, just so long as Jar Jar isn't in them.

Toss me on the 'good news' pile. I honestly look at this as a good thing. Even if the movie sucks (say what you will about Disney, they can probably pull off a new SW film better than Lucas at this point), it will at the very least get new fans and breathe new life into the franchise. Just look here, Pure SW was near death, but a new movie can get more interest in it.

So I look at this as an overall good thing.

I think the franchise has bigger problems than 'lower scale than Gundam'. Maybe Disney can actually tell a story that isn't shit? Use characters? That kind of thing?

It's possible that Disney will just pick and choose whatever they like from the EU and go with it while simply ignoring the rest. Of course, they might include every bit of EU as well - or nothing at all. It's too early to say.

Nah. Remember when Disney bought Marvel and they botched that whole Avengers movie? I'm sure any future SW films will bomb just as badly.

It was amusing at first...now its getting annoying. TFN is having a freaking seizure because of this, and I was in the middle of something over there.

Yeah, all the Marvel properties are worth was less now than they were before; the storytelling was ruined and the plots were for babies! I hope they don't ruin my clumsy tale of space wizards the same way they ruined the story about the fetish police!

Any decision will be based on how they percieve the EU to be valuable to the brand, so its more about how many people scream and moan and buy their shit novels than any narrative merit.

Its pretty unlikely they'll abandon it, since it'd reduce their ability to monetise the licence. Why would they care about quality when its clear the fanbase hasn't for decades?

Honestly, the only thing I'll miss is the Fox Fanfare.

Certainly a move away from the Skywalkers, Solos, and co. would be refreshing.

But the modern EU has been written with the understanding that there would be no more movies. What could an EU-faithful sequel trilogy possibly be about that isn't some ham-fisted adaptation of some second-rate novel that we've already read? Cade Skywalker's kids??

How about a sequel trilogy that incorporates the best elements from the Thrawn and Dark Empire stories?
