Network lag during a couple of lans with some friends of mine years ago spawned two similar legendary tales:
A multiplayer game of KKND2: Krossfire got so laggy that somehow the three of us playing ended up playing essentially different games as the network code never resolved any conflict between clients & the server. Issues such as player 1 units not visible on player 2 computer yet player 2's own units being destroyed by this invisible force
A similar occasion in a Total Annihilation 4v4 (human vs ai) game led to a situation where for some reason each real player could only target one or two ai players so leading to some very complex strategies and micromanagement to provide adequate defence/offence mixes
