NOW... as an archery buff, I think they are getting the context of these verses wrong. I don't think it's about having a lot of children, I think it's about having USEFUL children.

The 7th son will be a wizard, and the 7th son of a wizard will be a sourcerer. That's where I recognize it from anyway.

The 7th son will be a wizard, and the 7th son of a wizard will be a sourcerer. That's where I recognize it from anyway.
If you're talking Discworld, you're misremembering. It's the Eighth son on an Eighth Son will be a wizard and the eighth son of a Wizard will be a source of magic: A Sourcer.
8 having replaced 7 as the magically significant number on the Disc.
