illuminatus, i dont think we've ever seen that definition. the Database, while not perfect, says:

"The term hyperdrive refers to the engine and interrelated systems that propel a starship through the alternate dimension of hyperspace."

It clearly states that its /somewhere else/, not just /really fast/. Besides, while relativity permits FTL past c just not at c, it also says that you'll go back in time. Which doesn't help much :)

Then relativity functions slightly differently in Star Wars, or our understanding of it is imperfect. Hyperspace as another dimension has every sniff and whiff of being slang, much like Lightspeed.
