Actually, I think their responses were about what one should expect from the crew of a (quasi)-military ship which has just picked up a guy who's been out of the loop for 90 years.Dennis Toy wrote:the TNG episode with scotty was good however there are a few thing i didn't like...
the way the TNG crew treated scotty, first they brush him aside and not use his expertise, then laforge snaps at him 2 times telling him he was in the way, and picard makes him feel useless in the holodeck. You think that they would want the advice from someone who saved the federation 100 times over while there grandparents were shitting in their diapers. Scotty was someone who had 50+ years of engineering experience and no one wanted his input.... that was foul...
And why arent there reporters or historians who would want to report on him, interview him or see what he has to say.
What crisis! At the time the only thing not normal was that they were preparing to survey the Dysen Sphere. Taking a few hours to show Scotty some common curtesy. It would be like me meeting Thomas Edison or Nicola Tesla! so they are outdated! So what! They invented Electronics for crying out loud! Oh the conversation I would have, the things I couldn't wait to show them!Raoul Duke, Jr. wrote:Scotty had a whole crap-load of experience, yes, but it was primarily 90 years obselescent experience. Sure, nothing much changed spectrum-wide in their technology base in that time, but that doesn't mean that the ranking engineer on the ship is supposed to take time out -- during a crisis, no less -- to show Scotty the ropes.
I'll admit, they didn't treat him like the legend he was -- but then again, they didn't exactly have time for hero worship in that particular scenario.
