Anyone want to speculate on early contenders for any categories?

Is there an "Other" category? I'd go for it.
And how does the selection system work?

Star-Crossed will probably be the number one contender for best fic overall, and most of the associated awards (best character development, etc. etc.)
It's likely between Suicide Squad and The Division for goriest and best ground combat, being as they're just about the only fics on the subject being made recently.

I've read the Division so far and I LIKE it. Its got a very gripping portrayal of ground warfare. I haven't read very many fanfics so I'm sort of clueless as to the nominees/competition. Also we should have a list of the possible categories put here to let people know what's the possible permutations from the stories they've read. Perhaps I'll hunt it down and put it up here.

I'm considering an "other" category. Criteria for selection are mentioned earlier in this thread IIRC, but to put it simply any fic that has had a new chapter posted since January 1, 2002 is eligible.

Mostly agreed here. It has tough competition from Paradise Lost.

Except for Hit-Man's recent stuff.

Well, pretty much every category that's on the Archive's GSDA page will be considered. There may be more. I have to pick up the thread with Chuck again.

Hmmm...this may actually inspire me to start writing fan-fic on the side (as in, on the side other than my Robotech to Silhouette conversions and the new universe I'm working on creating while attending college full-time...but hey, there'll be a 2003 GSDA, right?

).

Okay, folks, because of my busy schedule the GSDAs are not quite ready to go yet. So, the start date is hereby pushed back to this Friday, November 22nd.

Um...in case you haven't noticed, it hasn't started yet. That's because we are woefully unprepared. What can I say, I've been busy! In any case, the nominations will start soon...however, we have a special category this year where I'll need a list of newcomers to the fanfic world. Your help is appreciated!

Not really, you just need StarCrossed for that.

What about MarkS? Even RayCav, I suppose...There has to be others.

Kelly and myself.

Okay, you would need Kelly. However no one but those two have much of a chance of winning if the category is as I suspect best new fan fiction or something close to it. Nothing new to this year seems have gotten anything like the responses those two have on either ASVS or Sd.net.
but I guess we must be fair..

People are actually remembering me for these things? What do you know. Not that I think I have a chance at winning anything up against Stravo, probably just be there to round out the top five, but I do seem to have a following.
Thanks Dalton. And I haven't forgotten or ignored your offer to put Manifest Destiny in the Archive. I just wanted it to be finished first.

It probably has missed it's shot at this year's award, but I hear there's a small fic-in-the works called The Great Furnace that has a fairly decent battle scene...

MarkS: No problem!
Everyone else: I'm trying to get them set up as I type this, so sit tight for more info. We'll have the same categories as last year with several exceptions:
*No Lifetime Achievement Award
*No "Best Killing of TOWNMNBS" Category
*Added a Best Duel category
*Added a special "Newcomers" category - this one is different
This is how the noms will work:
I will post a link to a form. The form will have each category with one field underneath it. In that field, you will write the name of the fanfic you wish to win the award. Please be aware that if you don't put a valid email address on the form (the field will be provided) the nomination will not count. The "Newcomer" category will be a text field; please type in the names and/or authors of all the people NEW to the archive (not just new stories from old authors!). When you submit them, the form will go to Chuck, who will tabulate the results and help me make the voting form.
A new addition this year is that your award will be personalized this year! You can choose to personalize either the GSDA SSD trophy or the Award plaque (these are IMAGES not actual objects).
