I thought the Dark Ages were the chaotic period between Rome's fall and the start of the Middle Ages??

The most important events in this period were the Moorish conquest of Spain, Viking raids upon the rest of Europe (in particular Britain and France) and the establishment of the Holy Roman Empire under Charlemagne.
