I've been wearing contacts since February. Touching the white part of your eyeball is no big deal. I managed to overcome what my optometrist said were "really heavy" reflexes. Anything came near my eye and it'd slam shut. You don't lose anything from it- my eyes still close if it's something I don't want near my eye- but if it's my own finger, meh.

Oh, and I wear regular ones. I hate those gimmick ones.

This is true. It is important that they fit your eye shape because even if they don't alter your eye's shape, they'll hurt like a bitch. It's really worth it to get the eye exam and get your exact measurements before buying them.

Ditto. I wore glasses from when I was in sixth grade till last september. Ever since then, I've been wearing contacts. I'll never switch back unless I absolutely have to. I used to be one of those 'heavy reflex' people. The doctor had a hell of a time getting them in the first time. :P Now, I can get them in on the first try 99% of the time w/o any problems.
