Not really the point- after all, I'm entitled to criticize the shit out of the Dungeons and Dragons movie, and I couldn't do better. Bad is bad, regardless of whether the person saying so could do better personally.
Well, *I thought* it was quite amusing. Even if it wasn't funny to you, it still points out plenty of 'differences' between the EU and the films canon, which was the point. It cuts both ways... either you're a purist who can't handle the EU being different than GL's vision, or you're an EU fanboy who is mad that GL doesn't follow it.

Even EU fans often attack KJA for being a "hack" or make fun of the Glove of Darth Vader or Darksaber, or some of the other B&B-esque additions to the Expanded Universe.

I don't see why criticizing parts of Star Wars makes you an asshole, fan or not. Plenty of us do it every day on these forums, making fun of Jar Jar, or the ewoks, etc.

Maybe we're just a community of assholes in your opinion?

Star Trek is different. There, fans are praised for regularly attacking the actual canon itself (heh, Enterprise, Voyager, half the movies)!

That above pic is from Jedi Outcast (the series was heavily influenced by the artwork from the comics... especially the illustrated versions of the Zahn trilogy). The Ysalamari from Mysteries of the Sith look very different however. I should throw a screenshot of one of those on here sometime.

Kurgan, you seem to keep forgetting about OT Purists, too.

Anyway...

The Prophets of the Dark Side series (which TGODV belongs to) is nothing but a line of crude young adult novels. They are often ignored by most, and only referenced to with either major revisions of the events or by the most basic of references.

I don't think it's even considered part of the EU by many (I for one personally don't), with it possibly slipping into the Apocrypha to be ignored forever more...

You're right of course. ; )

So essentially you have Lucas's companies who tolerate anything that makes them money, Lucas himself who only cares about the stuff he actually makes (except for the Holiday Special, which he regrets), and the fans, who have a spectrum of likes and dislikes.

Frankly, I think a lot of the EU is utter crap, but some of it I like. I am rather glad Lucas didn't adhere to it though, so I wouldn't have to sit through it again in the theater.

The trouble with the current EU policy is that once an author puts something down, it pretty much is set in stone, until Lucas contradicts it in a movie, then they all scramble to smooth it over with hand-waving.

I don't remember Lucas actually being involved in the production of the HS, and IIRC, his name is not in the active credits of the production.

I don't think he really had anything to do with it. Same with the never finished A Very Star Wars Christmas TV special (don't ask, you can read a review on Stomp Tokyo).

It has some place in continuity until it retroactively is declared Infinities.

So in other words, everything with the Star Wars logo on it is part of the official continuity (except for "Infinities"). Gotcha.

However, aren't the "Tales" books also considered apocryphal?

Yeah. Rostini said everything not considered an official part of the SW history is labeled Infinites or contained in SW Tales.

Since the whole Tales series is designated Infinites, I don't know why they specify.

However, if a story in Tales is referenced or retold elsewhere, or cited in a secondary source (ie. NEGTC) that particular story can be considered part of official continuity.

Except for those special cases, all Tales are apocryphal.

starwars.com is a valid source, including the Databank. While the Databank may get some information wrong, it's assumed to be correct unless somebody can provide evidence of a contradiction. In that case, the Databank may be wrong on that particular point (unless a rationalization can be acheived).

In the case of the Executor's length or the class name of the most common major Star Destroyer class, there are sources which can be used to point out the conflict. (I mean, seriously, if propagating the wrong length to the Executor or calling ISD's "Imperial-class" is enough to make a source unusable, then that throws out every SW novel I've ever read....)

An error in a source would not make the entire source unusable. It only means that the source is wrong on that individual point.
