There's one thing. A new YT-1300 is listed as 100,000 Credits. Obviously the Falcon was "a piece of junk", only worth 10,000 on paper.. Solo's modifications unknown of course.

You may notice from my list that many fighters are fairly cheap. Luke's supposed ship "Ten thousand? We could almost buy our own ship for that!" is presumably a very cheap shuttle, since it's a low-end number.

If you mean Luke's comment in ANH on the expensive trip, I don't think we can take that as very accurate, since Luke's just an ignorant farmboy and was also probably exagerating on his indignation.

I find it quite probable that engines, armor and weaponry make an important difference in prices. Also, the average cost of a wee Bradley is a bit over 3 million dollars, while a very large, expensive bus (those with an accordion in the middle) costs about 500k.

The effectiveness of lancers also requires that you believe that normal cap-ships can do fuck-all to starfighters. I have serious problems with that assumption.

First of all, I have no idea where you derived those cost figures from.

However, the Lancer class frigate is generally regarded as being a disastrously designed starship, and was largely ineffective in combat. Thus, yes, it was a giant waste of resources.

It doesn't really require that, it just says that larger capital ships aren't well designed for combating starfighters, which I can buy. Most large capital ships are designed to go after other capital ships, and so they might realistically have difficulty tracking down starfighters. The Lancer frigate, however, has never been shown to be very effective, and is generally considered VASTLY inferior to the Carrack cruiser and its many effective refits.

Yups swap out a carracks ion connaons for quad lasers and u have a lancer with cap scale weps to defend itself, which is as fast as an X-Wing at sublight speeds :D

NTM the Carrack Cruiser's superior armor, compartmentalization systems, and shielding, none of which are as well refined on the Lancer.

Actually, I thought that the Strike Cruisers were the ones with compartmentalized systems.

Strike Cruisers might ALSO have such compartmentalized systems, but the Carrack owes much of its dependability on its system, according to the EGVV.

Strike cruiser has a modular build so it can swap out hanges for comm gear and other stuff.
Carrack as a compentialmization stuff. Which basiclly means its got loads of bast doors through out it to seal off hull breachs. The system iss so good resuce teams have found live crew in totally wrecked carracks

Edit: (Just saw it)

No I think we can. Luke's Landspeeder sold for 3000 credits to the dealer and being that vehicles such as a starship would only be marginally higher such as a car to a civilian plane.
If it wasn't 10,000 credits and higher than that for a starship, probably no one may afford a ship if they wanted to joy ride the galaxy. I prefer nightmare's idea that it is just a low end ship for the masses because you need something cheap to sell for those consumers.

I almost shot my own mouth by typing something else. So basically, a civilian vehicle will always be cheaper then a souped up or military vehicle. Ok. Just had to tell myself that 50,000 times!

Nightmare, could you give us the price of a Lancer frigate?
Sorry for the late reply, but I've been on vacation, and I missed the question before.

The answer is no. I have never seen a legitimate number for it. The only sources I have ever seen regarding cost for the Lancer with numbers in them are various game stats - in other words, practically worthless for any purpose beyond gameplay. Those varies between ~1/2 - 1 times the cost of an interdictor cruiser.

It's WEG. I don't have that particular book, but Taylor / galacticdatabank.com may be able to tell you which compendium it is. Stats are available in http://www.starwarsclub.org/ and a few other places.

:Late reply: a YT-1300 is one of the cheapest YT's there is, so 10K for a busted up, on paper, ship is about right. But I'd rather have the YT-2400 than the 1300

Never mind!
So, the price remaines unknown (with the cost efficiency of the Lancer). :(
