Uranium235, I have heard that before, some people enjoy Trek 5,
because they take it as a light hearted semi comedy film, rather than
drama/action.
Many scenes in the film, lend themselvs to that as well. Such as
Sulu and Chekov getting lost, Spock telling Kirk, 'Not in front of the
Klingons' Kirk guessing that is was Spock who had helped make the
jail cell, etc.
I agree that the movie can be enjoyed if you take as a semi comedy
rather than action/drama.
Several episodes of Voyager are like that as well, and I like most of them.
Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy being my fav.

The court scene did nothing for me, that gavel the judge had was silly. Armored gauntlet and all, just too over the top.

And what made you think I was not a strange person? My favoritism could lie in the fact that TMP came out first, but given a choice, I'd still go with it over The Undiscovered Country.

I'm on the crazy drug that makes me think that Star Trek 5 was a better film than Generations (*snore, throw things at screen*), First Contact (*snore*), Insurrection (*snore, retch, snore*) and Nemesis (*throw things at screen*). 5 feels bigger, has better music (some of Goldsmith's best IMO), more *adventure*, less *dreary*, less godawful technobabble, and more fun.

I like the characters more. I like the sense of "going where no man has gone before". I like watching a movie not so focused on violence, I like the sense of a "bigger" galaxy than what TNG portrays and I like seeing a captain that hasn't been perverted into another goddamn action hero. Think about it, Picard has been toting around that goddamn phaser rifle for the past three movies. It's fucking ridiculous. And frankly, Star Trek 5 doesn't have me ripping my hair out over godawfully gigantic plot holes.

For all the crap that people give Star Trek 5, I honestly think it beats anything Rick Berman has shit out his ass in the past several years. I would pay to see it if the local movie theater decided to run it; I would not do so if it were one of the TNG films.

No plot holes? How about going to the centre of the galaxy in a couple days? Or the torp landing 4 metres away from Kirk and doing nothing.

Besides, is the center of the galaxy really that much farther away from Earth than the Galactic Barrier at the rim is?

I think STV gets more flak then it deserves. Certainly, ST:G, I, N suck, with maybe FC tying.
