I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

I agree with Durran. Completely. Utterly. Agree.

I propose, in the interests of ending this debate, that I enter into a threesome with both Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman in order to determine once and for all, which one is hotter.

For scientific reasons only of course.

I'm debating on whether or not to see it. The shittiest movie theatre in town managed to get the movie. I mean you can even leave the theatre because your shoes are stuck to the floor.

BTW, Reese Whitherspoon is hotter than either of the afore mentioned actresses.

See it, it is quite funny, Depp does a LOT of good manneristic and witty comedy that harkens back to Kevin Klein in his performance in Pirates of Penzanse(sp).
The plot has some holes though.

The movie was VERY good. The plot was an excellent pirate story, the characters very colorful (although Orlando Bloom was a tad flat), and, really, I didn't see any of these "Hellfire Rocket cannonballs" that the OP described. Maybe he was expecting something more akin to a catapult than artillery?

In my opinion, the pacing was excellent. Johnny Depp almost carried this film, and by that I mean his performance, character, and acting were so strong and mesmerizing that he would have overshadowed his fellow actors if it weren't for the fact that Geoffrey Rush was easily his equal (although not as prominent) and Keira Knightley was damn good herself.

And I'm proud of Jerry Bruckheimer, who, in my opinion, has redeemed himself for Armageddon. I was worried that he'd try to pull some of the bullshit that they did in Cutthroat Island (such as 18th-century rocket launchers and crap like that). Sure, it wasn't entirely accurate - pirate ships tended to be SMALL, for instance - but the embellishment of events wasn't terrible. I especially liked the bit where the knippel was used to sheer off the mast of the Interceptor.

And speaking of the Interceptor, the whole commandeer bit was great... tricking the Brits into thinking he was after the Dauntless? I COULD have seen in coming, but the film had me so enthralled that I was too busy enjoying it to start trying to anticpate it.

The visual effects were some of the best I'd ever seen... the utterly seamless transition of the cursed pirates between normal-looking and undead-looking was insanely enthralling, especially bits where they would be darting in and out of moonlight (like when Barbossa was rolling down the stairs).

And I loved his performance so much, I'll say it again... Johnny Depp was FUCKING AWESOME. Very similar to his portrayal of Hunter Thompson, but slightly more toned down. I think this movie easily makes it into my personal Top 20 movies.
