Stupid. The 'cultural center' of the Empire is Coruscant.

The first I heard that there wouldn't be Coruscant was today. How the hell could they make a "RL" Star Wars game without Coruscant?!?!?!?! I was thinking all along that it would be amazing to be able to live on Coruscant and in this game you would actually get the chance to. Hell, they should have made the entire game on Coruscant. That probably would have been much cooler.

I think that the layering neccessarry on Coruscant, and the density, would be strainign the limits of a 56k modem to be able to transmit all the enccessarry update data. Remember the game is designed to be used by everyone not just broadband phreaks like I. basically Coruscant would be great BUT:

1) Fighting the GCW would be unbelievable at best and impossible at worst
2) There's no variety and people would be mad not to be able to visit Tatooine and Naboo.
3) The layout of Coruscant would create SO many potential z-axis bugs that I wouldn't be suprised if Coruscant is an expansion unto itself for the amount of testing it will need.

Hmm....maybe if they made a GTA-like game that took place on Coruscant it would work. Hey...that'd be pretty damned amazing! (Dreams about an impossible merger between the M rating of GTA games and the T rating of Star Wars games.) *sigh*

Hell yes!!! That's the whole point of being a supreme dictator!

The game isn't necessarily designed for Star Wars purists and technoheads like us in mind... otherwise it probably *would* be set primarily on Coruscant...
I think what they're doing with Naboo is very interesting, considering it IS the homeworld of Palpatine, and was a major player in the events leading to the formation of the Empire.

From the SWG site.

"The Emperor has erected a stunning retreat on Naboo where he holds summits with high-ranking Imperial personnel. Imperial sympathizers can find a wide range of adventures here to pull them headlong into the throes of the Galactic Civil War. Perhaps after many trials and successful missions on behalf of the Empire, the most skilled agents may even gain an audience with the Emperor himself."

Yeah, but you do realize that everyone that he/she doesn't like would be royally screwed, don't you? Anyone he/she doesn't like would be an enemy to the Empire, whether or not you choose to join either the Rebels or Imperials. So all of you pro-Imperials would be screwed over by having to ass-kiss him/her or otherwise be forced to be a civilian, Rebel, or criminal. Yeah, I could see thousands of people willing to pay $10 + a month to ass-kiss someone else so that they could be on the side they want to be and not necessarily be treated equally.

The logical reason behind them not allowing people to play movie characters or naming their characters after them is to keep people from squabbling over who is the real person. It's perfectly logical. It will ruin the game from day one. That's why i'm glad they're putting in a naming filter so you don't have 5,000 varients of Luke Skywalker running around. As someone pointed out earlier, it would be just like Yahoo Chat rp.

"I'm the real Luke/Emperor!"
"No I am!"

This way we can actually enjoy the game. It forces us to actually be creative and make our OWN characters up. No bitching over who gets to play who. Probably one of the best ideas they had for SWG.

Here here, I couldn't have said it better myself...which is why its useful to latch onto the bandwagon you start :).
