Such apologetics. He made an openly racist and bigotted generalization. Regardless of whether he's a racist or not, it was inappropriate and stupid.

I don't take kindly to myself and millions of others being labeled ignorant because our ancestors are from Latin America.

The ignorance is compounded: I was friends with a couple of girls in Tampa who were of Cuban descent; they wanted nothing to do with the Hispanics of Mexican descent, and Mexicans I met in California thought that the Cubans were arrogant and snobby. Other Hispanics I met thought that Argentines were trying too hard to act like effete Europeans and that Guatemalans were poor, ignorant and generally fucked up.

That's just some of the impressions I picked up of varous Latin cultures from-- gasp!-- other Latinos and Latinas. Just like everyone else, they have their internal factions and divisions and outlooks. While most Hispanics in California will likely be of Mexican descent, it is folly to assume that all Hispanics will vote for the "Latino guy" just based on that. Many Hispanics will vote against him precisely because of that.

I think "Chicano" specifically refers to Americans of direct Mexican descent. Not distant heritage, but the immediate sons and daughters of native Mexicans that are now US citizens. They are the mixes of both cultures.

Chicano is now considered racist, exept by those Chicanos using the term.

Much like negro, or colored, what was fine for 30 years is now an insult.
Remember when Latino refered to both sexes? The PC crowd, not understanding or caring about different languages, and the lack of feminine and masculine connotations in spelling, decided to appliy the rules of Spanish to English, and thus, refering to a latin female as a Latino suddenenly becames an insult.(That's LatinA, gringo!)
By the way, what sex is a gallon of water? Female? AquA?

You know what worries me the most? In highschool they had weekly MEchA meetings and I had no idea what the organization was.

I thought it was like the "Black Club" or the "Hmong Club".

It's not strange that MEChA is able to get away as long they keep their ideology secret - just look at their Anglo-Saxon equivalent, the Ku Klux Klan which was able to pass off as yet another Freemason-style secret society for a surprising amount of time.

You know despite being a white boy, part Jewish, hippie kid, I have a lot of fun with various groups in college. Especially when I introduced a Fruit of Islam to my Godmother (Former Black Panther & a Lesbian), he about had a heart attack....

It's a military rank and he's just a racist fuck, not military. I think the rank of Reichsführer-SS or Gruppenführer would be more fitting.
